Grand Theft Auto 5 - no sound (SOLVED)

Hello everybody,

Not sure if this topic fits here but I'll try anyway. I know there were already many questions regarding this issue online but I wen't literally through all links, articles, forums I've found on this topic (reddit, steam support, rockstar, nvidia, you name it).

I bought GTA5 few days ago via steam, installed it and I'm able to run it with no issues except of SOUND. There is no sound after the intro videos. I've tried all following WITH NO SUCCESS:

  • reinstalled it
  • run in compatibility mode both rockstar launcher and steam agent / separatedly rockstar launcher and steam, together with running as administrator
  • uninstalled sound devices and let windows install them back
  • reinstall sound drivers
  • reinstall directx (current version dx12)
  • checked whether app is mute in sound mixer
  • checked default sound device (speakers, headphones)
  • played with the sound device settings
  • tried both in game settings for sound output (headphones, speakers) and dx version (10, 10.1, 11)
  • all other media without issues (browser music, other non-steam game)
  • some more a bit strange points I found online (like playing with in game voice record or some other things)

I've tried really everything I found online and it's really really annoying..

Does anyone of you have by any chance a personal tip that worked for him (if encountered this issue)?

Many thanks!

Petr

    Hi Nathan,

    • yes, I mentioned it in the original post
    • yes, happened only with Fallout 4 and GTA 5

However the problem is SOLVED, if anyone had similar issues and none of the general tips on the internet worked, try Step 1 from psykoteky from this link: https://steamcommunity.com/app/271590/discussions/0/1479856439034421847/?ctp=3#c1479856439039081658 - it worked for me.

    Thank you

    Best luck,

    Petr

    Hey there, PetrOcenasek

Welcome to the Microsoft Community forums.

Never encountered this problem before. When you open sound settings, is your speakers set to default?

Does sound only not work in Steam games?

    Regards,
