I would like to download Facetime on my laptop but was curious if anyone has had any experience with this and if you would recommend doing so?

You might look into alternative communication products where supports Windows and MacOS ,iPad and so on, for example you might consider using Skype.
In case you want FaceTime on Windows, you will need to share feedback with their product team.
