All downloads are flagged as having a virus and deleted on all browsers

Every file I try to download is flagged as having a virus and is then deleted, in Microsoft Edge, IE and Chrome. All virus scans came up negative so I thought McAfee might be the issue so uninstalled that program letting Windows Defender take over security duties, then I had Windows Defender scan for viruses, but none were detected.

I can pretty much guarantee the files I'm trying to download don't contain viruses.

Please don't advise me to download another antivirus, I can't.  I also can't reinstall McAfee as it won't let me download the latest version.  I'm sure all my McAfee and Windows was up to date before this started.  I am beyond frustrated and am seriously considering binning my PC and buying a Mac! Thank you for any help you can provide.

That's it - problem solved, Siteadvisor was still there and was causing the issue.  Many thanks and much appreciated.

    Neil,

You don't appear to clearly state whether you're still having the virus detections during download now that you've removed the McAfee AV and switched to Windows Defender?

If not, why not just continue with Defender, since that's free and maintained automatically by Microsoft.

If so, there's another thread here recently where someone was having a similar problem, so we might be able to find similarities that lead to a solution with some additional information about how the viruses or other messages displayed if any.

    Rob
