Xbox One controller recognized, but not transmitting any input

I've had some issues with my xbox one controller of late. I recently reinstalled the Bluetooth drivers for my controller, managed to connect it without a usb adapter for the first time. Then that broke and nearly took my Bluetooth with it. I managed to get it fixed and am now using the receiver again but now I have a new problem that only affects my controller.

When I play a game sometimes my controller is connected, recognized (as in the game's ui changes to controller), but it won't accept any input from the sticks or buttons. If I move my mouse and make it change to kb+m it switches the ui and it even switches back to gamepad but it still won't accept input. I also can't figure out how it fixes itself or breaks. Sometimes it seems to break after an alt+tab, other times it works fine even with alt tabbing. Sometimes it won't work with a newly opened game and sometimes a restart of the game fixes it, other times it doesn't. I really don't know what to do here.

The fixes are often the same. See specific fixes here for Xbox controller here which will work for input not detected as well as controller not detected:

Have you tried updating the Xbox Controller driver in Device manager? If that fails try Uninstalling it in Device Manager, restart PC to reinstall. Also try all previous drivers queued in Device Mgr. via Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

    Hi there,

I am having the same issue. My controller is recognized although not working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. I have tried all methods listed here, still nothing. I know its not the controller as that works on my Xbox just fine.

    any help appreciated.

edit** I have also tried using a different controller. Same issue

Nothing to do with this thread but you seem to have forgotten

My Win 10 SSD is marked as portable and has restricted function.
