Hand and Arrow Pointer Won't Go Away When Watching Videos

This used to happen intemittently. Now it happens all the time.

When watching videos on Amazon, the hand just stays there on the screen. I have to bring it all the way down to the taskbar, where it changes to an arrow.

When watching videos on YouTube, the arrow stays on the screen the whole time.

Really aggravating and distracting. I often like to click backward on videos, so having to scroll the mouse all the way up is a pain. And wears out my trackball!'

Running Windows 10. Doesn't matter what browser I use; happens on all of them. Desktop computer.

I have no idea what category to post this in. That list was written for computer techs, not your average user.

Hello, I had the same issue with amazon prime video and yes, it was annoying because with the hand cursor stuck on, my computer wouln’t turn off or go to sleep mode if I left it playing, and I will have to move it out of the way to watch the movie, but finally got fixed after I turn on my windows virus protection and windows firewall on, I noticed I had turn those setting off, went to turn everything back on and now the hand cursor will dissapear when watching amazon video, hope this helps

Well, that kind of blows that theory out the water as you're right up to date Windows wise.

It's really odd as there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why this affects some users and not others.

There's one thing I can think of that might make a difference.

Can you click on Start and type Mouse settings. Then click on Mouse Settings (System settings) in the results that show up.

In the Mouse settings window, look on the right hand side for "Additional mouse options" and click this.

You should now have the Mouse properties window displayed.

    Click the Pointer options tab.

Can you make sure there is a tick next to "Hide pointer while typing". If there isn't, check the box and click Apply and then reboot your computer.

Now check to see if the problem has resolved.

If this doesn't sort out your problem then I will release this question so another adviser can help you as I don't know what else to suggest. It seems to be totally random who this affects and there's no clear fix I can find and suggest for you to try.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi, my name is Neil, I'm an independent adviser and a Windows 10 user like you.

In the fall creators update for Windows 10 this became an issue for some users, so it makes me wonder whether your computer is right up to date or not?

If you can press Windows Key + I to open the settings.

    Then click System.

Then click About at the bottom on the left hand side.

Can you tell me what your Version number and your OS Build number are under Windows specifications?

In the meantime, some users figured out a temporary workaround where if you have volume and/or mute controls on your keyboard, pressing the volume up or down momentarily or pressing the mute button on and then off would make their mouse pointer disappear when watching a video.
