WiFi too slow to start after boot...

Over the last few months, I notice that my WiFi is too slow to start after boot, and internet connectivity happens even later. It takes well over 5 minutes after my device boots up completely for internet to actually work. But once it starts working, it works without problems.

Here is how the icon looks just after boot (the globe icon instead of the usual WiFi icon):

It takes about 2 to 3 minutes after boot for it to change to the usual WiFI icon. But even then there is no internet connectivity. It takes another 2 or 3 minutes after that for internet to actually start working. So a good 5 or 6 minutes after device boots up completely for internet to work.

Surprisingly, I see the same problem on both my laptops. One is HP Windows 10 Laptop, and the other is the latest MacBook Pro running Windows 10 on Bootcamp.

Also, Microsoft Store updates are extremely slow on both machines. It keeps cycling between 'Downloading', 'Almost ready', 'Checking product files', etc. I have a decently fast internet connection, so that is not the problem.

    Hello Aditya,

    1. I have BitDefender Total installed on my HP laptop. But there is no security solution on my Mac.
    2. Did you mean when connected to internet via Ethernet cable?

The only things common on both laptops are Google Chrome, Firefox and iTunes. There is nothing else installed in Windows on Mac.

Could iTunes be causing this problem? I have the same old version of iTunes (12.6.5) installed on both machines.

    Thanks for your response.

    Thanks for the response.

I'm on the latest version 1909 Build 18363.778.

This problem has been happening over the past few months, probably after i upgraded to 1909. Everything was fine until the 1809 builds.

All my drivers are up-to-date. Router has been reset too.

Tried many of the recommended solutions online but they haven't helped. The problem most likely has to do with the Windows Update Service/ Windows Defender.

As mentioned in the original post, the exact same problem is seen on both my laptops - one is HP and the other is MacBook Pro (via Bootcamp). On my Mac, it is just the Windows installation plus Google Chrome browser. Nothing else is installed, so any software conflict can be ruled out.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your response.

We would like to have some more information.

    • Do you have any non-Microsoft antivirus program installed on both the machine?
    • Does the same behavior occur when connected to LAN?

Meanwhile, we would suggest you to perform a Software clean boot and then try to upgrade to Windows 10.

You may, refer the article How to perform a clean boot in Windows. A ‘clean boot’ starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.

If performing a clean boot fixes the issue then, please refer to the section How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot to check which program is causing the issue.

Note:After you finish troubleshooting, follow the sectionReset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting to reset the computer to start normally.

    Regards,

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand your concern as the Wi-Fi responds slowly on the Windows 10 PCs. In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

    • What is the Windows 10 Version and Build installed? (Type winver in Windows search/Run command)
    • Are you aware of any changes/updates on the PCs prior to this issue?
    • Did you try resetting the router?

We would suggest you to refer the steps as mentioned in this article: Fix Wi-Fi connection issues in Windows

Also, try updating the network driver from the Device manager.

    1. Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and select Device manager from the context menu.
    2. Expand Network adapters and locate the network adapter in the window.
    3. Right click on the wireless adapter and select Update this software from the context menu.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions and wait for the update to complete.
    5. After the software update is complete, close the window and check if the changes are effective.

    Regards,
