5 Monitor Set-Up

Hello!

I am having difficulty setting up 5 monitors. I can't find a clear answer or solution for this issue anywhere! I can easily get 3 monitors to work. My graphics card (GPU) supports more than three monitors, I made sure when I bought it.

Currently I only have the cables to set up four monitors but I am unable to make it work!

It isn't a specific monitor or driver because with all four monitors I have played with some setting and made each monitor be the "fourth" or unworking monitor. So it isn't a cable problem or a updating driver problem. It must be a settings problem.

I have attempted setting up "infinity-eye" with my grahics card but again I can only get three monitors to work simutaneously.

I don't want to play video games or anything, and all my monitors are mini-port to DVI with an exception of one being DVI to DVI.

Hardware: R9 295x (suppports more than 3 monitors)

The setting show that the fourth monitor is detected and as I said before I have set each monitor to become the "fourth" not being used monitor.

Has anyone found a solution to this? I would greatly apppreciate it!

Logan, it looks like you need to use Eyefinity to use all 5 monitors.

I would contact AMD Support to get this working correctly as they provide the Support for the card under it's one-year warranty.

If they cannot get it working to your satisfaction then I'd source a card that is known to work for this purpose.

Checking the web the best guides for graphics cards supporting five monitors are rated here:

One more thing I forgot to mention - the reason I chose the r9 295x is because I have an r9 290x so I wanted to get something compatible with my current card (the 290x). I do not have the r9 290x installed anymore though for a couple of reasons. One being I am trying to run a desktop computer not a gaming computer. I do not believe dual-GPUs (Crossfire) can even be used in anything that isn't specific games that have the crossfire setting "turned-on" if you will.

From my research it appears having the extra ports on a second GPU is not a solution for this issue.

    I appreciate the assistance!

However this does not seem to be the solution to my problem.

From my research I performed prior to buying a new graphics card my R9 295x should be able to support up to 5 monitors:

I has 5 mini-display ports and one DVI port.

I have converters for the graphics card (GPU) that convert mini-display port-to-HDMI. At the end of that I have a HDMI to DVI going into my monitors (there's always another adapter, am I right?) This is just what I had laying around rather than buying 4 mini-display port to DVI cables.

Of my 5 monitors the only inputs for four of them are DVI (and VGA but I am pretty sure I can't just have half my monitors analog and half digital) One of the monitors has: DVI, HDMI, and VGA inputs.

I have purchased a single mini-DP to HDMI or maybe it is a mini-DP to DVI port in an attempt to see if the multiple adapters is the root cause of the issue, but I have a "gut feeling" that the problem is actually a setting // set up that I just don't know.

I have found some information in my past research that you are able to 'mirror' screens. That is not my intent, my end goal is two have 5 independent - extended screens.

My current set up is  a three monitors on swivel-mounts. With a single monitor on the left and the right below the swivel mount. Now I know that you can adjust the settings with the Radeon graphics card to use "eye-finity" I attempted this but I didn't necessarily love the result. If there was a way to configure it vertically on the left and the right double monitors that would be better than only having three functional monitors.

I do a lot of programming for school, watch my lectures online, and have to use a lot of spreadsheets (multiple simultaneously copying from one sheet to another) in conjunction with multiple other pieces of software. So the ideal situation would be to have all 5 monitors functional.

Here is the manual of the graphics card I currently have: https://cdn-docs.av-iq.com/other//R9%20295_Series_User%20Guide.pdf

Now under display support it says it supports 6 monitor display with "eyefinity" or 3 passive monitor support? Does that mean I have to implement "eyefinity" to get all 5 monitors to work? This bullet is followed by the statement: "• Any number of active or native connections. "

There is also a table in here that shows the support based off the connectors. It appears it may not support 5 monitors with DVI. I have done little research but I don't know how GPUs and converters/adapters interact.

I would think with the right adapter/converter combination I could get this to work.

I don't have mini-display ports in the back of my monitors but if I had a miniDP to miniDP cable and then a active "adapter" (Converter) at the very end going into my monitor I might be able to get it to work? The GPU would be driving a connection of a DP signal still and then the active converter would be able to supply to DVI signal to the monitor?

I am unfamiliar with differences of these cables.
