Windows 8.1 Product Key for Windows 10 Upgrade

Hello.  I purchased a Dell Inspiron 23 5348 a few years ago from Amazon.com.  It had Windows 8.1 operating system installed.  I have had no problem with the computer or software till now.  The Windows Update will not take any new updates.  I checked and the last update was 12/4/2019.  I tried updating several "fixes" and will not take updates... they all fail.  My System Restore will not work as well.  Keeps getting errors.  I thought I would upgrade to Windows 10 since it was available for free now online.  It was downloading but would not update because of the license activation key.  From what I learned, the upgrade should check the key automatically of the current operating system to upgrade and install.  I looked for and found the key but the first portion is protected with the last few numbers showing.  The last numbers showing of the key are 9WYBQ.  I did not receive a Windows 8.1 disk when I received the computer.  There is no tag or sticker on the computer showing the license key numbers.  How can I upgrade to Windows 10 with this issue?  I have attached 2 screenshots of the Windows 8 system screen and the Windows Activation screen which shows the information.  I would like to upgrade to be able to protect my computer system and be able to utilize the System Restore if necessary.  Thank you for any help or info.

With Windows 8/8.1 The Product Key on preinstalled Operating Systems (HP, Acer, etc) is embedded in the BIOS in the Motherboard, so that the lost and/or worn C.O.A. Sticker problem is no more.

"Windows 10 Embedded Product Key Tool"

    https://neosmart.net/blog/2014/windows-10-embedded-product-key-tool/

"We’re proud to introduce the immediate release of our newest utility for Windows users: the NeoSmart Technologies Embedded Product Key Tool. Designed for users of Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10, our embedded product key tool will retrieve and display the Windows setup product key embedded in the BIOS or EFI, allowing you to store it for safe-keeping or use it to reinstall Windows with an official Windows setup image."

You may or may not still get 10 for free, but you first have to see if 10 is compatible with your device.

The free upgrade to Windows 10 offer from Microsoft expired on the 29th July, 2016.

You will have to contact MS support and they may be able to assist you with a free upgrade to 10..

✔ = Full upgrade is supported including personal data, settings, and applications.

First thing to do is to make sure that you have the correct system requirements and that your Computer Manufacturer supplies the correct Drivers for 10 for your Model Number.

    Driver Downloads:

    Dell:

    "Windows 10 System Requirements"

    https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/3884/windows-10-system-requirements

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/windows-10-specifications#sysreqs

If you read those Microsoft's system requirements for 10, you will find that if you only go on them you will be sadly disappointed in performance.

For reasonable performance should have at least:

2 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor.

4 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 8 GB for 64-bit

    500GB hard drive

DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver

There was a free upgrade for youl; but Microsoft ended that a couple of years ago.

This is what you are referring to:

    Assistive Technologies

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10. The free upgrade offer extension for Windows 7 and Windows 8 customers who use assistive technologies expired on December 31, 2017. As an alternative, Windows 10 software and devices are available for purchase from retail and online stores. In case you have other questions, we are providing some references to resources and frequently asked questions regarding assistive technologies and Windows 10 that might be of interest.

They actually kept it open until the 16-17th of Jan, 2018.

When you ring them mention the fact that you have disabilities to them

You will have to contact MS support and they may be able to assist you with a free upgrade to 10..

And here are the phone numbers.

I thank you for your help and advice.  I did read the reply.  Followed the link you sent and from that website it sent me to the Microsoft Windows 10 download tool.  Downloaded as previously done and same outcome.  It sounds like from many users that they were successful at upgrading to Windows 10 from previous versions.  I was not successful.  I wonder if my license key is valid or not?  I don't know why it wouldn't be because I received updates from Microsoft.  Is there a way Microsoft can help me directly?  I am a senior citizen of 78 years on a fixed income.  I have macular degeneration and cannot see well and have a handicap tag.  I thought I read somewhere on the Internet where if you had a disability an upgrade to Win 10 would be free.  I just want to get my computer working properly again and have current updates for security from Microsoft.  I want to thank you for any help.  It is appreciated.

Downloaded License Tool and found the License Key for Windows 8.1.  Downloaded Windows 10 again and just like before, it failed to install.  Stated could not validate license key.  In the process on download, there was no action to install key license manually. Attached screenshot of Windows 10 failure.  This was the final window to show... no other came up afterwards.  Why wouldn't the upgrade program seek the license key itself.  I thought that is what it was supposed to do.  This version of Windows 8.1 received Microsoft updates, so it must had the permission to receive them.  I have a screenshot saved of the license key number brought up by the tool.
