    Hi HM,

My name is Jocelyn, an independent advisor happy to help.

Here's how to disable automatic driver downloads.

Go Control Panel>System and Security>System>Click Advanced system settings from the left pane.

    Select the Hardware tab.

Press the Device Installation Settings button.

Choose No, and then press the Save Changes button.

    To uninstall your audio driver:

Go to Device Manager box, right-click the audio driver and choose Uninstall.

I hope this information help. Let me know if you need anything else.

    Best,

    Jocelyn

Driver Sweeper is now Display Driver Uninstaller. This will go digging in system and related registry entries in order to remove remnants sloppily left behind by software installs. It can be very problematic if these orphans are not removed cleanly.

For giggles, go into Device Manager and click on 'View' menu and select 'show hidden devices' and then you can see ghosts that will sometimes make installing new drivers an issue. Sometimes right clicking and uninstalling these greyed-out-ghosts will help, but not always. Everytime you reboot it can end up being another search and destroy adventure. Good grief.

This software can make things a lot less exasperating. Be careful though to go into Display Driver Uninstaller options first. You don't want it to delete stuff you need like your perfectly functioning display driver, for instance.

BTW I do not like anything touching Windows' registry except maybe this, if needed. (More) instability in Windows is just not an option.
