Microsoft Wireless 2000 Keyboard and Mouse USB stick not recognized

Hello,

Keyboard and mouse are not recognized/installed on Windows 10. Mouse sensor is active (blue), and a green light appears on both devices when turning them on.

When I put the stick into the USB port nothing happens, should any popup/notification appear?

I tried:

  • putting USB stick/dongle into multiple USB ports on the frond and back
  • downloading Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center (Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center cannot detect a Microsoft device connected to your computer. )
  • updating windows
  • batteries are new
  • run windows settings troubleshooting tool for keyboard

I just ran through multiple help pages / forum posts, tried to contact you and talked with a robot as recommended at the end of the troubleshooting page who then sent me back to the same page, tried to call you and after choosing multiple options during the call ended up hearing that the office is closed. Please, help.

Well it turns out my dongle can be recognized if I bend it really hard while in the USB port (and it does send notification when that happens). Not sure if I somehow damaged it mechanically or it is this way because of two years in the closet.

Ann, the keyboard behaves the same for me, green light for some time after putting in the batteries. Only thing I can recommend is to install the microsoft drivers for your set (https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-gb/d/wireless-desktop-2000 for Wireless2000).

Too bad the dongle is not replaceable, I'll probably try changing and re-soldering the USB plug and then I'll probably end up ditching on microsoft hardware for some time...

Hello, I’m Virginia an independent advisor with 20 years of expertise in fixing my own & friends’ PC problems.

This is a user-to-user forum & not Microsoft.

Which Windows version are you running - 1809, 1903 or 1909?

I assume you’re referring to the USB dongle which came with the mouse & keyboard, if not let me know.

No you’ll not see any pop up once you insert the dongle. Does the mouse & keyboard work?

It may be that a long as the devices work Microsoft may not think a visual indication is needed.

You can send them feedback via Windows key + F to request they add this to future mice & keyboards.

Hello Virginia, thank you for the reply and clarification, I was not aware.

I am running Windows version 1909 (compilation 18363.778).

Yes I am referring to the small black USB stick that came with mouse&keyboard. Well that's unfortunate, it would be very helpful to get any sign from windows that the usb is connected/accepted/recognized by the system. Mouse and keyboard does work as far as I can tell, I could see green light on both of them for a second when turning them on (keyboard doesn't actually have an on/off switch but there's a star on the extra buttons panel that gave me green light).
