0xc000007b error at GTA V and Rockstar launcher startup

Yesterday I decided to download GTA V via Epic Games, it was free and my computer should have the requirements needed to run the game. After I installed the game, I downloaded the Rockstar Games Launcher. When I launched the installer and started installing it, however, it gave me two different errors, repeating a couple times before they went away.

They errors said I was missing 'MSVCP140.dll' and 'VCRUNTIME140.dll'. I looked these up on the internet and it said I needed to download those files from the database and, because I have a Windows 10, put them in my system32 folder and my SysWOW64 folder. They were already in the SysWOW64 folder so I only put them in the system32 folder.

When I tried to lauch the Rockstar Launcher it still didn't work, now it said error 0xc000007b and that I had to close the laucnher by pressing 'ok'. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the launcher, but it didn't work. Even while uninstalling and reinstalling the Launcher it displayed the 0xc000007b error message three times (I didn't have to terminate the installer this time though).

I looked possible solutions up on the internet. The EpicGames troubleshooting guide said I should try reinstalling the game and the EpicGames launcher, neither worked. A problem most commenly found when the 0xc000007b error code shows up while trying to play GTA V is that D3DX9.dll is missing or damaged, I replaced the one in SysWOW64 and added it to system32, but it didn't help. I tried using dxwebsetup.exe, but it wouldn't reinstall because I had the same or a newer version as the one it tried to install. There were a lot more things suggested, but trying them al and possibly doing more harm than good was not something I wanted to do.

This is why I decided to reach out here. Is there something that I tried, that should have fixed it, but that I did wrong, or do I need to do something else to fix this problem?

Note: This is the first time I have encountered this problem. Other games on my computer, like The Sims 4, Hearts of Iron 4, Portal 2 and Stellaris run perfectly fine.

I did what the site said, I changed the setting and rebooted. After that I tried to launch the game, both via the shortcut and the laucher and they both showed the error message 0xc000007b, but I still didn't find a minidump folder or a memory.dmp file.

I noticed the site said that these minidumps were primarily for BSOD's, so I don't know if this would actually apply to my situation. So just to clarify, my PC doesn't crash when I try to launch, it simply shows a message with the error code 0xc000007b and the game then doesn't launch, it simply stops loading the game after the error message.

Note: I tried starting up some other games and most worked, except for Hearts of Iron IV and Crusader Kings 2, which is weird because I recently played both these games. I do think it's possible that this means it might have something to do with when my crusader kings 2 crashed, but that's just speculation.

(Also, I have two different copies of Crusader Kings II and the one that crashed was not the one that doesn't work anymore. The one that doesn't work anymore I got for free via Steam. All my other games from steam still work)

Update: Because of the last note I made I decided to retrace my steps and I found the problem. Because I have a 64-bit windows version I needed to put a 64-bit version of mscvp140.dll and vcruntime140.dll in system32 and a 32-bit version in SysWOW64. I didn't do that correctly, but after redoing it it works fine now.

    Thanks for the help anyway

    Hi Chriskrazzz,

I'm Paul, a fellow customer like you & an Independent Advisor. Let me help you investigate this further. Kindly allow me to ask the following files below to begin the analysis. Thank you.

    1. Mini Dump or Dump file

In File Explorer, go to C:\Windows\Minidump & copy/paste to your Desktop. If it's not there, you may copy/paste the C:\Windows\Memory.dmp instead. However, we recommend the minidumps first.

    1. NFO file

Go to Start > search/open MSinfo32 > Click File > click Save > save your .nfo file (not text file) to your Desktop.

    1. Export the Speccy file (.speccy not .xml) from this tool below to your Desktop.
