How to Extract .7z.001 files

I know how to extract them normally, but the file I downloaded only came with one part, I've tried downloading it again and downloading it elsewhere but I always get the standalone .001 file, no other parts. When I try to extract it, it says "Unexpected end of data".

    Hi Riggit,

    This is Wil, one of the independent advisor, an expert with Windows 10 and a fellow Windows 10 user like you.

    7zip file with numbers on it like 001 means that you only have a part file of the whole compressed file. You would need to look for the other parts of it and the actual executable or batch file that you would need to click on in order to extract it. You would need to ask the uploader of the file on where are the other part files and the batch or the EXE file for it.

    At this point, you would need to contact the uploader of that file so you can ask him about the rest of the zip file and the batch or EXE file for you to be able to extract it. That is the only way this particular issue can be solved.

    Posted a similar question, but left out some important details.

    I am able to open the archive, but there is another one inside, and I cant open it or extract it.

    so the file tree would go Sample.7z.001   >    Sample.7z    >    Sample.txt

                                                       ^                          ^                         ^

                                        can open archive  -  cant open/extract - Unaccessible

    I'm not expecting a txt, but i'm just using it as an example.

    An .001 file is likely to be the first segment of a larger file that has been split into several smaller files.  The utility you're using to "extract" it is reporting "Unexpected end of data" because it's expecting at least one other piece of the original file.

    If you think that the file is complete and if you're expecting it to be a media file of some type, try opening it in IrfanView (https://www.irfanview.com/).  IrfanView is pretty good at identifying files of the many types it can open, even if they have an incorrect filename extension. 

    IrfanView also has a hex editor (File>Open as >Hex file).  You can use this to examine the first several bytes of the file and compare that to lists of file signatures (e.g., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_file_signatures).  If the file is complete and you're able to figure out what its format is, you can rename it with the proper extension and open it with the applicable program.

    Of course, if the file isn't complete, knowing what sort of file it is won't help very much.  You should ask whatever entity supports the site from which you downloaded the single .001 file for assistance.
