HI All,

i already have a laptop with a retail windows 10 pro license linked to my microsoft account.

i bought another laptop which has an OEM licencse windows 10 pro.

can i link my same microsoft account in the OEM laptop too? would it transfer my retail license to the OEM laptop? i would like to keep both the retail license on my previous laptop and continue with OEM license on the new one but link them to the same microsoft account.

is it possible?

Using same Microsoft account on different machines won't affect the original licensing on system. So you can use same Microsoft account on another laptop without any worry!

When you sign in in the new computer use the same Microsoft account that you already have.  You do not need to make additional accounts.

I am using the same account on 8 computers.

    Thansk Kapil,

Now i have another question - i am giving away my old laptop which has a windows 10 pro license whcih i purchased? The laptop came with windows 8 home - then i purchased the pro license and it got upgraded to windows 10 pro. or maybe i did the free updgrade to windows 10 home and then i purchased the pro license i dont remember the sequence.

anyway, now i will give away the laptop to someone else without my hard drive - so they will install a new hard drive and do a new windows or whatever.

what will happen to my 10 pro license? i want to retain it for me as it is already in my microsoft account and when i need i could activate it on another PC. ideally i would buy a pc with a DOS sytem or a home windows then use my pro license to upgrade it.

    1. is this possible? i assume since in purchased an upgrade from home to pro it is no more an OEM license? (it should be retail)
    2. i will remove this device from my microsoft account, wipe the original hard disk and use it as a backup disk
    3. when the new guy installs a windows on my old laptop on his new hdd - would it still pickup my license?
    4. eventually when i buy a new system - how would i activate it with my retained pro license from the old laptop?

    Hi Talha

Rest assured you can link all your devices to your Microsoft account, that will not cause any transference of your licences between those devices and will not cause any problems in the future . . .
