Hi! I can not find my inbuilt camera for my HP Notebook, it is not in the imagery devices. I can not find any trace of it in the usual places. I am using Windows 10 Home. When I click on the Camera app it comes up with an error saying no camera attached.  I need a solution as I am trying to work from home and it is impossible! PLEASE HELP!

    Hello SGough,

Thank you for updating me that information. I'm sorry it didn't resolve the issue. What is the model of your HP laptop?

Open Device Manager > View Tab > Show hidden devices

Do you see any camera device on the list?

Hi! I have tried all of those things and it doesn't work. It has changed since Windows 10. I can not find the camera listed anywhere other than as an app, it will not let me uninstall it and I have ensured all access is available for apps. I have followed all of those steps previously with no joy. I can not find the software on Microsoft or HP to be able to update or reinstall.

    Hello SGough,

I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I want to apologize if you encountered this issue. I understand you have a problem with your laptop camera. When was the last time the it's working properly? Did you made any changes recently? What is the make and model of your device?

Some laptops have a privacy switch or a camera shutter key that can be used to turn off your webcam and prevent it from being used.

Camera Privacy Switch located at the right side of the laptop

Camera Shutter Key located on the keyboard

Please try to press FN+F6 or CTRL+F8, F10. or try other F key combinations.

    Give your apps permission

If you recently updated Windows 10, you might need to give apps permission to use the camera. In newer versions of Windows 10, some apps don’t have default access to the camera.

To let apps access the camera, select the Start button, and then select Settings > Privacy > Camera. Then turn on Allow access to camera on this device.

Please go to your manufacturer's Support Page. Download and install latest drivers for your camera.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further concerns.
