Hi, my name is Neil, I'm an independent adviser and a Windows 10 user like you.

Sorry you're having trouble transferring files to your external hard drive.

I recommend you format your external hard drive to the NTFS format and see if your problem resolves. You should have no problems and faster write speeds using NTFS.

To format your external hard drive do the following:

***Please remember that formatting your drive will delete EVERYTHING from the drive. Please backup any files BEFORE formatting***

    Plug in your hard drive.

    Go to This PC.

    Find your external hard drive.

Right Click on it and choose "Format..." from the menu.

In the format window, under file system drop down box, select "NTFS"

You can change the drive name if you want to under Volume Label.

Under format options, make sure that the Quick format box is checked.

    Click the Start button.

It shouldn't take long at all.

After it has been formatted, now try copying to your hard drive.

Let me know how you get on.

OK I found the following disclaimers on Amazon for your drive:

    *******

    Disclaimers

    1. Actual formatted capacity may vary. For details, please visit our official website.
    2. Compatibility may vary depending on user’s hardware configuration and operating system. Drive formatted NTFS for Microsoft Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7. Requires reformatting for Mac OS v10.12 /OS X, v10.11 / v10.10.
    3. Product specifications, colours, features, and availability are subject to change without notice.

    *******

Then I found the product page for your drive on Toshiba website here: https://storage.toshiba.com/consumer-hdd/extern...

And if you look at the system requirements at the bottom, it says:

    System Requirements4

     Formatted NTFS for Microsoft:registered: Windows:registered: 10, Windows:registered: 8.1, Windows:registered: 7

     Requires reformatting for Mac OS v10.12 /OS X v10.11 / v10.10

Available USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 Port

So it looks like the drive should already be formatted to NTFS or at least it should be for Windows 10 for compatibility?

So it should have come already formatted to NTFS. It looks like either yours wasn't, or it has been reformatted to exFat by someone after it was bought?

Either way, follow my original instructions to format it to NTFS format. I can find no issue formatting the drive. It even states the drive can be reformatted because it has to be for it to work for Mac users.

Let me know how you get on. :)
