I have tried everything I can think of.  I am using windows 10 and I am trying to set up my printer wirelessly.  I keep getting the message under printers and scanners.  HP Officejet Pro 9020  Driver in unavailable

I fixed my own problem. Part of the reason why the printer wasn't reinstalling was because the permissions for some of the files and registry entries were not allowing them to be removed during the uninstall process. One of the files (hpygid29.inf) could not be removed until I booted on a Windows 10 DaRT (Diagnostic and Recovery Toolset) and removed it as well as every entry for the 9020 in the registry I could find (as well as the hpygid29 entries). I also removed the WSD port associated with the printer that also wasn't being removed after the uninstall process.  I don't know who to blame for this mess, whether HP screwed up or Microsoft, but this is ridiculous. I'm glad I figured it out and got it to work, but it still wasn't a normal install after all of this - I had to install the printer portion (listed as Other Devices -> Unknown Device) by pointing to the extracted driver files from the download and selecting the Officejet Pro 9020 (non-PCL3).

I think what Tommy McCabe is saying - because I have the same exact problem - is that, after finishing with the install of the HP driver from HP's website, the printer driver is NOT installing. The scanner portion installs and works. The fax portion installs and works. The printer is listed in Devices and Printers (and in Device Manager), but there are no driver files associated with the printer. Something blocks the driver install. If you run HP's Print and Scan Doctor to find out why the printer isn't printing, it fails at driver detection "please uninstall and reinstall the printer driver" and won't go past it. When I try to "force" a driver install it says that either: "The driver cannot be installed because it is either not digitally signed or not signed in the appropriate manner." or "Windows found drivers for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install them. The data is invalid." The truly unfortunate part is that my client has two computers with the same issue and now it's spread to their HP Laserjet Enterprise P3015 as well with the same driver issue.

I have been fighting this for over a week. I have removed an anti-virus program (Sophos). I've disabled the Windows Firewall (as well as a reset). I've run a system file check (sfc /scannow). I've run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. I've repair installed the OS (Windows 10 Pro  version 1909). I've unblocked or added TCP and UDP ports in the firewall that have anything to do with HP printers. I've removed everything running in the background that doesn't need to be running. I've tried the HP Smart App.

It is NOT the printer. I can connect to another computer and it will work fine...at least initially as I haven't kept it hooked to the computer for an extended period of time.

We have been on the phone with HP tech support with the initial tech giving up and then with a higher level HP tech also throwing in the towel. I am at a loss at this point. I think the only option I have left is either a Windows reset or a fresh install after I backup the data. I know I'm going to run into this again so I would prefer to fix it rather than wipe and reinstall everything.

    Hi Tommy

Have you downloaded and installed the driver and software for your printer from the support page on the HP webaite?
