Where is my 'documents' folder saved?

On file explorer my 'documents' folder doesn't seem to be in Windows (C:) or Data (D:), it looks like it's separate from both.

Also when I look at both disks with TreeSize it shows no evidence of a documents folder, but when I view storage via the computer's settings it says there is a large part of (C:) being taken up by documents...

I'm trying to organise my laptop to save most personal documents to (D:) because it's much larger but as i can't find the folder in (C:) it's proving difficult to move!

The folder "Documents" is normally here:

    C:\Users\Tom\Documents

To move it, you do this:

    1. Open File Explorer
    2. Right-click Documents
    3. Left-click Properties
    4. Click Location
    5. Specify the desired location
    6. Click OK. Windows will create the folder (if necessary) and move the data.

    Hi Tom

By default in Windows 10, the Documents folder is here (replace YourName):

    C:\Users\YourName\Documents

To check that, in the left pane of File Explorer, click Quick Access, in the right pane, right click your Documents folder and choose Properties, then select the Location Tab

What is the reported location of that Documents folder?

    Thanks for your help

    The location is C:\Users\MyName*OneDrive*\Documents

Does that OneDrive bit affect it at all?

    Hi Tom

In Windows 10, if you use Onedrive to sync files, that would be the normal location of the Documents folder

On that Properties Dialog, choose the Location Tab, from there, you can change that location to your D Drive, the only thing to be careful about is, to not just specify your D drive, you must name a folder like D;\Documents otherwise your Documents folder will become merged with your D drive . . .

    Ah i see...

And will OneDrive still be able to access documents if it's in D drive?
