USB-C to Display Port not working?

I have an X1 Yoga with Windows 10, attempting to connect to an external HP monitor using one of the two USB-C Thunderbolt ports.  I bought a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter from Lenovo, connecting the adapter to the DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor. No signal on monitor.  It's a brand new monitor and it works fine using HDMI, but due to availability of ports I want to use the USB-C connection.

When I plug in the USB-C to DisplayPort adapter I get a message "PC isn't charging".  The power cord is plugged into the other USB-C port and otherwise works fine.  I have tried switching around the USB-C to DisplayPort adapter to the other port but still no signal to the monitor.

Please help.

Hi, I'm Elise, an independent advisor and I'd be happy to help with your issue.

Not all USB C connections actually support display over usb c unfortunately, is suspect this may be the case here.

Other users have reported with other Lenovo laptops that plugging the charger into the adjacent port resolves the issue, so it is worth try that,

    Kind Regards,

    Elise

I'm not 100% sure but it looks like it is Thunderbolt 3 rather than USB-C on your model, which has the same connector but slightly different capabilities.

I am thinking you may actually need a Thunderbolt to Displayport adaptor for this to work.

    Kind Regards,

    Elise

    Hi Elise,

    Thanks for your reply.

i have tried swapping with the adjacent port but it still does not work.

Is there a way to confirm if my USB-C port in fact does not support DisplayPort? Or if that is disabled? I read the specs for the X1 Carbon and it says the USB-C ports do support DisplayPort which is I am confused.

    Jen
