Disabling max number of services in windows 10

Hello all.

I would like to go back xp, why? Disabling services I was able to have a system running with only 80MB RAM memory, now I see that impossible with windows 10 because there are interdependence services, it more risky disable services than in XP or at least is my feeling, I tried to follow several guides in the internet, most of them between 10 and 25 services, I think Windows 10 would allow to minimize resources usage more, could you give me bigger service list for safety disable services without causing system crash?

I have several restoration points just in case.

Regards and thanks.

Thanks for your support, help  and time Gregg!!

I checked what was that stuff and here although is not a microsoft advice, it says: "These settings do not apply to the normal browser. They only apply when you open a Windows Defender Application Guard browsing window."

"If you want to use Windows Defender Application Guard, you will have to open the Edge browser in the usual way, then click on the browser's menu. There is a menu option to open a new Windows Defender Application Guard session."

So it's  a Edge browser feature, even if it were general, my browsing activity don't lead me to strange websites, 100% times it  stuff consulting, so even if it were for other browers, I wouldn't use 2GB RAM feature.

    Regards and thanks

Hi, I realized I activated Windows Defender Applications Protection in Windows Features, quoting one of your Microsoft colleagues:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/vmmem-process-will-not-be-killed-windows-sandbox/d24e0f15-147d-4e8d-9f1a-73e0802ccb1a

Press Windows + R key, then type appwiz.cpl and click Ok.

Click on Turn Windows features on or off from the left pane.

Uncheck the box beside Windows Sandbox and click OK. -> Here I unchecked Windows Defender Application Protection and free near 2GB of RAM

I hope it can help someone to free some more RAM.

    Thanks!!!

Stress test the RAM and other hardware with these tests:

    https://techguided.com/beshttps://www.wepc.com/...

Run Crucial System Scanner to check the RAM is properly spec'd and configured: https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/systemscanner?cm...

With that much RAM I would not worry about RAM usage unless it maxes out and causes hangs. RAM is meant for using, especially that much. You just need enough in reserve so it never pegs out.

    Troubleshoot high RAM usage:

    https://superuser.com/questions/949244/windows-...

    https://www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmagic/...

    http://woshub.com/fix-high-memory-usage-by-svch...

Update your drivers and BIOS/UEFI firmware from PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page, using the full model number, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

Updating drivers from the Device Manager or Windows Update is rarely enough. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is keep the latest manufacturer's drivers installed from their Support Downloads web page.

Thanks a lot Greg, I directly disabled pagination as it was using lot of Gigabytes and photoshop importing 1,4GB of textures I don't know why but after some minutes ate 50GB of hard disk, I even created a script to delete my own %TMP% folder content:

    cd C:\Users\Pablo\AppData\Local\Temp\

    del * /S /Q

    rmdir /S /Q "C:\Users\Pablo\AppData\Local\Temp"

So I disabled pagination for this reason. I don't experience any problems and if any I could recover with windows media installation usb and use recovery or starting windows in safe mode.

I have 20GB RAM but the fact that only running windows 10 "wastes" 5GB makes me wish run a linux or a old xp, I don't use so many stuff in my computer to have that memory size.

I already did DISM and sfc commands because windows defender was detenting threats but when I pressed start actions didn't make anything or if started doing something not progress bar or anything and delayed hours and didn't finished actions. Today, defender appeared green, I don't know what happened honestly and I had run DISM and sfc commands and wmi to check windows defender and was right.

No, it seems I don't have infections at least what reports Windows Defender and I ran Windows Microsoft Safety Scanner and Microsoft Malicious Software removal tool and Malwarebytes.

At the moment I'm at 34% of RAm only with browser and virtualbox , 6,9GB which it's a lot of RAM for what actually I'm doing.

Thanks for your help!! I appreciate it!

    Have a nice day

Hi Pablo. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator, here to help you.

There's no way to compare with older OS's including ancient ones like XP, because starting with WIndows 10 they have broken out svchost into multiple services each. You can read more about this here:

    https://www.askvg.com/windows-10-fix-too-many-s...

You can optimize the paging file which may help some:

    https://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/...

But nothing compares to adding more physical RAM if you can. Run Crucial System Scanner to check the RAM specs and how it is configured, what upgrade options exist for first quality RAM: https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/systemscanner?cm...

You can also go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you'll wait to rate whether my post resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
