Suddenly I am not allowed to change folder permissions

I tried to download a file using Firefox and was told I did not have permission to save it. I went to the folder to change permissions, and I am not able to do that -- everything grayed out. I am using an administrator account. I rebooted and tried running explorer as an administrator. Can't change a damn thing.

I did nothing to cause this to happen. I turned on the computer, held my online class using Teams, and then tried to save a file. Same thing I do everyday.  How does an administrator still be classified as an administrator and yet lose all administrator privileges?

Sfc found errors and corrected them. DISM refuses to run at all, says it cannot start the servicing process, and advises me to look at the log file. I've tried twice to include the log file here and it has crashed my browser both times.

So this is what I see when I try to edit permissions for the administrator group.

All the boxes are gray. When I try to select any of them, nothing happens. I am doing this from my administrator account so I should be allowed to change anything I want. If I select the Users accounts category, this is what I see:

As you can see, Users are allowed to do certain things but I cannot change any of them from my administrator account. That is not my understanding of the term "administrator." And as I said previously, earlier than a few days ago this simply did not happen.

    Hi pjcamp

I am Wilfredo an Independent advisor

You can have a failure with some program. We can do the following:

Enable the Windows administrator account to do what you need, then please go back to disable it.

    After this you can:

    • Execute a command line in search of damaged and corrupt files
    • Create another account
    • Reconfigure administrator permissions.

    To Enable Windows Hidden Manager:

Press win + R key> type lusrmgr.msc> left click users> left side administrator> double click> uncheck "Account is disabled" box

Then log out and log in with this account.

Remember to return the account to its original state

In the Windows search engine type CMD and run it as administrator then type:

sfc /scannow and run it 3 times then type these commands one by one:

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

This may take a few minutes, then check to see if you still have problems with your account.

    I hope it helps you

    Hello pjcamp,

I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. Can you please upload a screenshot of the grayed out window? Please make sure to censor any personal information, if there is any in the window you are taking a screenshot of.

Please reply to this post with the screenshot. Me or another Community member will reply.

    Thank you.
