Dual Monitor Problem Browser Windows Showing Up To Big And Extending To Secondary Monitor

I have windows 10 and I have a secondary monitor connected to my laptop from HDMI to VGA and the screen resolution on the laptop is 1366 X 768 which is the recommended size. And the secondary monitor is 1920 X 1080. And I have not tinkered with the setting on the monitor since I connected them. And I just left everything the way it was except for the monitor positioning.

I moved the monitor from the right of the laptop to above the laptop after I placed the monitor on a desk mount. So in the settings the monitor 2 is above the laptop and the laptop is the main monitor.

So when I open the Firefox, Google Chrome, or Edge all the browsers are the same size and there all to big. So on the secondary monitor there is this thin line at the bottom of the screen whenever I have a browser fully opened.

But there is something I did notice when I use Firefox and click the (3) lined button to get into options and such I can zoom in and out and the go into full screen without the tabs and such on the top showing and then the line disappears.

But I like to see the tabs without needing to mess around with the sizing and such.

I just wanted to know if there is a way to change the full size of the browser windows full when they open full. There is the minimize and maximize and then close. I want the window maximized but not full screen in full screen I can't see the tabs and such. I want to fix this for all my browsers if possible.

Thank You!

OK, Let me know.

It is strange that when you Extend the screen from laptop to the secondary monitor, it finds the exact place the laptop monitor screen is to cut out a thin strip of the picture with a white line. How does it know you're stacking the monitors instead of using them side-by-side?

What happens if you press Windows (flag) key + P and choose Second screen only?

I use my laptop on a 27" curved screen when I'm home. I also tried using the smaller laptop screen but found that it's too much of a shock to go back and forth from the smaller screen to the big on, so I just leave the laptop lid half open in the corner of the desk (so I can reach the power button) and choose via Windows (flag) key + P to use Second screen only. So if this bothers you and it can't be fixed then I'd try that.

I have tried this: I clicked the icon between the minimize and the close until the Firefox Browser was about half the normal size and then I stretched it with the arrows from left to right and then top to bottom. And then I closed it and then reopened it and it still fills the screen more then it should.

Next I checked the the drivers with the "Lenovo Vantage" and updated all that needed updating and the display drivers latest updates are already installed.

I have a smaller screen for the laptop and the secondary monitor has a better picture and bigger screen so when I watch my anime and movies I like watching it on the bigger screen.

Plus I prefer having the main screen as the laptop screen.

Plus this is not happening on everything just the browsers.

The browser issue makes me think the browsers are thinking the screen is bigger then it actually is. Or something like that.

Even when I open settings in full screen is dose not hang over its just the 3 browsers. I will download a new browser and check to see if that has the same issue. And I will respond back.

As you can see from the image there is a white strip on the top of the browser window for Firefox and the strip goes along the bottom of the secondary monitor screen the full width of the main laptop screen. I think if I figure out a way to make all browser windows open at a specific size then the problem would be fixed. But I don't know how to do this. I used print screen to take a picture of my 2 screens together and then I just closed in to make the picture as tight as possible. And as you can see the size difference in the monitors are a bit different in size. The laptop screen is smaller and the secondary  monitor is clearly bigger. So I need to do something that will open the browsers the same size inside the screen and not have a hang over onto the other screen. this is the issue. And this issue only happens with browsers and when I say browsers I mean all 3 browsers that I have on my laptop are having this same issue. The Firefox, Chrome, and Edge. Are all 3 opening to big at full opened. But if I do full screen with Firefox and hide all the tabs I don't have this issue. But I like the tabs so I know where I am at and what I am doing. Plus in full screen mode there is no buttons I can't do anything until the tabs and stuff pop back up. I'm not used to the full screen just maximized. Any ideas would be great plus I don't know much about the programs suggest in the post.

Hi Dawn. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator, here to help you.

Make sure you have the latest Display driver from the PC maker's Support Downloads webpage for your exact model, which will determine the screen resolution.

Then adjust the resolution for each screen separately as shown here:

    https://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/diff...

If the browsers still don't fit comfortably on one screen, adjust their size by clicking the middle Maximize button at top right (between the - and X buttons) until you can resize the window. Drag the borders of the browser Windows exactly where you want them. Then close and open to see if it sticks. If not drag them again and click the middle Maximize box a few times to try to program the size.

If not this is due to another program conflicting. You can resolve it by one of these methods or 3rd party tools:

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you'll wait to rate whether my post resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
