Microsoft store digital copy movies?

Is there a way to transfer digital copy movies that i have purchased in the microsoft store to an external hard drive so i have a copy of the movie forever?  Since digital copies are basically streamed through the xbox one x, there is no actual movie downloaded to my xbox.  If the time comes when microsoft dumps movies from their servers and a movie i own happens to get dumped, i want to be sure i still retain my purchase.

Nothing but crickets. I have the same issue. I paid for these items to own them not rent them from a streaming service. Unless there was some very very fine print I missed, there was never a mention or warning that my purchases would be limited to streaming only on the Xbox. Guess it's time to stop "buying" things from the  Xbox store. Just go buy them from Walmart so at least I'll have a hard copy.

Thank you for cutting and pasting something i have already read.  It still has not answered my question.  My big issue is the fact that i want to retain my purchases.  I spent the money, i want to ensure i dont lose my movie collection.  My question is about transferring my purchases to an external hard drive.  It doesnt have to be from the xbox to the drive.  As movies will only stream for as long as microsoft retains the movies on their servers, if they lose the right to sell/rent/stream said movie(s) then there is no way for someone to watch something they have purchased.  I have already seen 4 movies dropped from my collection because they are no longer available through microsoft.  And yes you can talk about “movies anywhere”, but they dont support all production companies, for example movies from Paramont wont show up on that service.

Wal-Mart is selling it's  vudu  service to for fandango  but so far I haven't seen any changes when i login.

I don't own an Xbox but what I've seen with purchasing movies from Microsoft through the Microsoft store I always had an option to either download the movie to 1 computer oh Or be able to stream it on multiple devices Which I actually pick the streaming Option

I've only had 1 issue with streaming content but it wasn't from Microsoft it was from google Where I purchased a movie and tried to play it and It was not even a whole month but the movie would not play on a different computer They ended up refunding my purchase

Kind of find it strange that Would not be available just because the movie was dropped from Microsoft or Through whatever movie It would be bought through

I don't know if there is an availability to go into your account like On the Microsoft store on windows 10 and search for your content that way On the Xbox Because I've found many titles that don't show up In the Microsoft store but are listed still in my account

Hi hockeyguy15inNH! I'm Dan! An Independent Advisor and also a Microsoft user for several years. I'll be more than happy to assist you today!

I have read a reply by XBF Diego M, a Microsoft agent/Moderator about downloading a digital copy of movies from Microsoft Store to external storage. I believe this can answer your inquiry.

"Unfortunately I don't think the Movies and TV app is programmed in the same way that it is on the PC in that you can only stream your purchased content from the Microsoft Store onto the Xbox. The movies and tv app on the Xbox One doesn't function like a media player but rather like a streaming service. A USB flash drive is only really used on the Xbox One to transfer offline system updates in the event of a system error during start up and it needs to be formatted to NTFS.

The Xbox is becoming more like a PC everyday and even runs a simplified version of Windows 10 so I wouldn't be surprised that the Movies and TV app get's updated to allow this in the near future. There is a built-in app called File Explorer on the Xbox One that lets you view your files from a USB drive but I haven't played around with it much so I don't know if potentially you can still play those files using another media player like VLC for example.

I hope that explains why you can't view those videos from a flash drive on the Xbox One but I know the console can be capable of it, it's just something that would take some time to implement. I recommend suggesting this idea over at Xbox Ideas so it can be seen by the right people."

I hope this information is helpful. Please keep me updated on the status of this issue. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask and I will be glad to assist you.

    Best regards,

    Dan
