Hello MattRessBF, my name is Irisdiel and I am an independent advisor.

Down below I have listed a method that should help with your drag and drop issue.

Method: The solution: Left click a file, keep the left click pressed and then hit the

    Escape key

When drag and drop doesn't work, left click a file in Windows Explorer or File Explorer, and keep the left click mouse button pressed. While the left click button is held down, press the Escape key on your keyboard, once. Release the left click mouse button.

If that solution didn't work then another possible issue could be with your mouse driver.

A link that may help you with more information with your mouse driver id down below:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17417/...

    Thank you and good luck.

    Regards- Irisdiel H.

    Hello Matt,

I'm Independent Advisor and Microsoft MVP, here to help you with your question.

Try resetting File Explorer (explorer.exe) process:

    1. Press Windows Key + R and type SYSDM.CPL in Run. Click OK or press Enter key.
    2. In System Properties window, switch to Advanced tab, click Settings under Performance.
    3. Next, in Performance Options, under Processor scheduling, make sure that Adjust for best performance of: is set to Programs.
    4. Then in the same window, under Virtual memory, click Settings button.
    5. On Virtual Memory page, make sure Automatically manage paging file sizes for all drives option is checked. Click OK, then Apply, OK on rest of windows.
    6. Reboot the machine and see if issue is resolved now.

Let us know if this helps!

    Hello,

    Please try these suggestions:

First, try canceling the drag and drop interface. Then left-click the file or folder you want to drag and now press the Esc key on your keyboard. See if this resolves the issue.

    Else, perform a clean boot:

If issue still persists, perform a repair upgrade:

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for help Kapil! I Applied all settings as you advised, but still the same issue. I did compress a folder of old files I don't use, and then drag and drop quit working, so I likely caused the problem. (fix it till it's broke syndrome) I have tried DnD in other folders and docs, and all are affected. Very inconvenient having to open and save every doc in the desired destination folder. Thanks again for help Kapil! Cheers

    Hello Matt,

You might also check using the tutorial below to see if your drag and drop sensitivity may have been set too high by mistake somehow.
