G'day again, yes the link works, but the process doesn't.  Tried many times, pressing 0 key & then power key WILL NOT BRING UP ANY SCREEN BUT THE NORMAL START UP SCREEN. CAN ANYTHING ELSE WORK WITH THIS OLD TOSHIBA TECRA LAPTOP WITH WINDOWS XP?

    Thanks again, RC

    The link does work.

But if you were using Internet Explorer 8 to access the Net, IE8 is a serious security risk and most websites no longer support it, which means you can't access websites.

I have copied/pasted what is at the link:

    • Information
      • Many Toshiba computers/tablets come with the factory software recovery image stored in a special (hidden) area on the hard disk. From this special hidden system recovery image, you can restore your computer to its factory-fresh software condition by following these steps:

For Windows 7 and Prior versions

    1. Make sure the device is turned off ("Shut-down" from the Windows Start menu)
    2. Remove any peripherals such an external mouse, keyboard, monitor, USB flash drive etc.
    3. Make sure the AC Adapter is plugged in and working.
    4. Press and hold down the 0 (zero) key on the keyboard while powering on the computer/tablet.  Release it when the recovery warning screen appears.
    5. If the recovery process offers a choice of Operating Systems, select the appropriate one for you.
    6. A warning screen appears, stating that when the recovery is executed all data will be deleted and rewritten.
    7. Click Yes to continue.
    8. When the Toshiba Recovery Wizard opens select "Recovery of Factory Software" or the appropriate option for your needs.
    9. Continue to follow the directions restarting as necessary.

Thanks for your reply.  But the link sent DOESN'T WORK WITH MY LAPTOP ON WINDOWS XP. Overall the laptop is near useless as it takes forever to get anywhere offline or online. That's why I'd like to try to reset it to Out-of-Box, Original condition. How can I reset this LAPTOP using Windows XP? ANY useful information greatly appreciated .

    Thanks, RC

Personally I would not reinstall XP because of a Wi-Fi problem.

You will have a lot of hassles with getting all the Windows Updates and possibly 3 Service Packs downloaded.

Why don't you fix your Wi-Fi problem instead?

But here is the information you asked for IF it has a recovery partition imaged on the hard drive by Toshiba.
