Hello,

After a Windows Update, my camera is missing in device manager. Before the update, the camera was working perfectly fine. However,

I went to the manufacturer's website to download a camera driver but it failed. The camera driver supports the operation system my laptop has but it won't work. I need help troubleshooting this issue relating to installing a new camera driver. Thanks.

-Brian

    Hello Brian_Ung,

I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I want to apologize if you encountered this issue. I understand you have a problem with your laptop camera. What is the make and model of your device?

Some laptops have a privacy switch or a camera shutter key that can be used to turn off your webcam and prevent it from being used.

Camera Privacy Switch located at the right side of the laptop

Camera Shutter Key located on the keyboard

Please try to press FN+F6 or CTRL+F8, F10. or try other F key combinations.

Open Device Manager > Under View tab > Show hidden devices

Expand Camera > Check if you can see your camera device

Please try to check this support article if it helps

You may also consider to Perform a System Restore on an earlier date which the camera was still working fine.

    Press Start

Search for Create a restore point, and click the top result to open the System Properties.

    Click the System Restore button.

Choose a different restore point. Click the Next button.

Select the restore point that you want to use on your computer. You can check the box "Show more restore points"

    Click Next then Finish

Kindly let me know if this helps or if you have any further concerns.

    Sincerely

    John DeV

    Hello John,

The make is an HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-ch0xx. There is no privacy switch for the camera. When I open up device manager and clicked "hidden devices", no camera was shown in either cameras or imaging device. The camera is nowhere to be found. Perhaps a system restore is the best option?

    Hello again,

Yes, I tried to download and install the camera driver from that website. However, when I tried to do a system restore, there were no restoration points when the camera is functioning. I don't know which option to proceed to fix this camera issue. The camera was working months ago but now it doesn't. In fact, the laptop's motherboard was faulty so I had to replace it with a new one. Maybe that contributed it to the issue? I just need help installing the camera driver from that website which is the manufacturer's.

    -Brian
