I do not recommend that you use any Registry Cleaners, Optimizers, Driver Updaters, Tune -Up utilities, etc.

They may do more harm to your operating system than any good that they claim to be able to do.

See if this assists you to improve performance.

Scan for Malware with the FREE version of this Program.

Download, install, update and scan your System with the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware:

And disable the Premium Trial and set it to the permanently free on-demand version:

Make sure that you have the latest updated Drivers:

Go to your Computer or Hardware Manufacture's website > Driver and Software Support Section > look up your Computer or Hardware Model number > then your Operating System > locate the correct Drivers > download and install them.

It would be a good idea to also run the System File Checker Tool just to make sure everything is correct in the System Files.

How to Repair Windows 7 System Files with System File Checker

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker - Windows 7 Help Forums

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click

All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click

Allow. 2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:

    sfc /scannow

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

    Cheers.

If you are not completely happy after following bill's advice, I suggest you seriously consider re-installing Windows 7.  Pros know well that a re-install all by itself will always yield a stunning improvement in  performance.  Three years is about the right interval, but no more than 5 years.  While considering that, consider replacing your older hard drive (cost under $100).  Consider it old it laptop is 5 years or older, desktop 8 years or older.  Hard drives fail slowly usually and bad performance is one of the top-offs.

While considering a new hard drive, do not buy a 5400rpm one.  Buy a 7200 rpm one.  Much better for almost no price differential.
