Can't update Watchtower Library.

Anonymous
2020-06-22T19:34:48+00:00

Windows 10 Home, version 1903 for X64 system (KB4497165), Product ID: 00325-80000-0060-AAoem

Intel (R) Core (TM) i3-7100u, CPU @ 2.40 GHz, 64 bit operating system, X64-based processer

789 GB free

This problem started when I tried to update the Watchtower Library, but computer said couldn't because something was open in the WTL, I checked everything, couldn't find anything open. After numerous tries I uninstalled the WTL and tried to download/install several times. The "Mount" doesn't appear as the instructions said it should. The program downloads but can't open it.

So I copied the WTL from another laptop and pasted to my computer, it will open very slowly but with the 2017 version. Would not let me update.

Has anyone experienced this, and if so, how can I update the WTL app? I am not real sharp on computers but can follow directions.

Please help.

Thank you,

bajarick

I have exactly the same problem discribed here.  I've tried a few suggestions; namely check that my PC has enough free space.  Another suggestion was to open 2016 Watchtower or Workbook, toggle through a few items there for a bit then go back to homepage, wait a little while and this might get it updating.  That didn't work for me so I'm searching everywhere and asking everyone who might know.

Would so appreciate any helpful suggestion.  Many thanks.

I feel for you. I spent at least 15 hours trying to solve this problem ...

Do you have JW app on your computer? If not please install it.

Scroll down to the very bottom of the home page and click Help

Scroll down to the very bottom of the Help page and click "Watchtower Library"

Then follow instructions. If your internet service does have the bandwidth (the file is close to 4 gigs), just let me know and we will work with what you got. I'm trying to get us on the same page as it would make easier for me to work you through to Joy. Joy is what my wife and me experienced when this problem got solved. Please let me know whether we work with what have installed or the download. One way or another, I promise that by working together, we will solve this very pesky problem.

    Yb,

    Bob

Here is a solution that might help.

1- First make hidden files and folders visible.

    https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/show-hidden-files-folders-extensions.html#:~:text=In%20Windows%20Explorer%2C%20choose%20Organize,Show%20Hidden%20Files%20and%20Folders.

Go to Windows 10 /options/Type Folder options in the search box. Click on the window, Under "View" select show hidden files Apply/OK.

    2- Go to C:\ProgramData\Watchtower\WTLibrary

3- delete the two files, "ca-bundle.zip" and "cert.pem"

4- Open Watchtower Library, go to help/check for updates and try again.

    I hope this helps

    Kind regards

    Chris

    Hi all who offered help,

Just to let you know that the problem is sorted.  I don't know what, if any worked.  I just opened it today as I've done for the last several weeks ready to try again and there it was; a full and up-to-date Watchtower Library. I just want to thank everyone who tried to help.  Hope your issues are also sorted. Many thanks and God bless.

    JenEwren.

Hi, I've been trying to update as well on and off for the past week, without success. Same error about running multiple instances of Watchtower Library= Try again. The answer that FINALLY worked for me was the one posted by  eharmony, on July 28, 2020. SPECIFICALLY the part about which updatepkg file to use. For some reason, I also had two different packages.

The one that worked for me was lyu_E.updatepkg.

AND it took a long time. Thank you so much all of you for posting these comments.

Thank you so much for your kind assistance bro Bob. I followed your suggestions and things seemed to be going well. I downloaded the lyu_E (1).updatepkg file but when I tried to run it, it asked how I want to open this file and offered Adobe, Internet Explorer, Office 2010,Visual Studio Version Selector, Word and Notepad. I have no idea if one of these could open it and that's as far as I got. I have plenty of storage so maybe that can be ruled out. Thanks again.

You are 1 step closer to a solution.

Watchtower library is the only app that can open updatepkg files.

    1. Open the library.
    2. From the top left menu bar, select Help->Manual Update Package->Apply Package

If the update is applied, your problem is solved. However if you get the dreaded "Failed to update Watchtower Library" let me know and we'll take it from there.
