How do I convert a MOV file to MP4?

Although this question has been asked before, the responses have been locked and are not visible. It’s unfortunate that Microsoft doesn’t provide this conversion service as part of their “Movies and TV” software. Please let me know if there’s a reliable free conversion application. One suggestion I received was to simply change the file extension from MOV to MP4, but that was unsuccessful. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Leonardo. Do you have any recommendations based on your experience with any of these apps? I know some apps advertise "free" but it means a free trial and recurring monthly fees after the trial period.

FYI, this was one suggestion listed as a response to my Google inquiry:

Open the folder containing the MOV file. The quickest way to change an MOV file to MP4 is to simply change the extension. MP4 is a subset of the MOV format, so no conversion is actually necessary. This will work on any operating system, and doesn't require any additional software.

Hi, Keith. Thanks for reaching out! I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you, and I am here to work with you on this issue.

Keith, for that you're going to need a third party app, since there's no built-in app for that on Windows. You can check a few options on the link below:

    https://alternativeto.net/software/free-mp4-con...

Ps: to change the file extension is not the same as a file conversion.

    I hope this helps!

    Kind regards,
