How to get old codecs from Windows

I've recently upgraded to Windows 10 and have transferred all my old files over. However, I have a number of music files that can no longer be played. They're under codec 161, which indicates they're under Windows Media 9, but I can't find anything that will let me continue playing these through any of the Windows systems.

Can anyone help me with this? I'm finding answers from back in the 00s, but none for current systems.

Hi, Kheldarson. Thanks for reaching out! I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you, and I am here to work with you on this issue.

Kheldarson, what is the extension of those files?

You can try to install K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, is a very powerful pack of codec, which allows you to run lots of files:

Please let me know if it works for you, ok? I hope this helps!:)

    Kind regards,

Didn't work :/ Windows Media Player tells me it encountered a problem, and Groove says it doesn't have content usage rights (0xc00d7186)
