Installed a new RAM but doesn't show up.

Hi, I have recently bough a new RAM to upgrade my laptop,

the Laptop default spec:

  • Window 10 64bit
  • 4gb Nvidia gtx1650
  • 8gb ddr4 ram

The issue is that I bought a new Crucial 8gb DDR4 RAM stick (same speed as a default RAM stick) in hope to upgrade my laptop to 16gb RAM, however, after installed, I check the system information and its still only showed 8gb of Physical RAM, the task manager also only showed 8gb, however the Virtual memory showed 15.9gb. So I am not sure if its suppose to be like this since I spent money to upgrade physical RAM.

Thanks

    Hi VRatta,

My name is Ralph. I'm an Independent Advisor and I'll be glad to help you today.

Sorry for the inconvenience, let's check few things.

May I ask if you are using 64bit OS in your laptop?

Press windows + R and type msconfig.

    Under boot tab>click advance.

    Uncheck Max Memory.

    Click Apply

    Click Ok.

    Restart your PC

    Check again.

Note: Make sure that your BIOS detected the RAM or try to reinsert the ram properly.

    Regards,

    Ralph

    Hi Ralph,

Thank you for your reply. Yes my laptop is 64bit, I have done everything you said above however, its still only showed 8gb RAM and the BIOS still did not recognise new RAM.

I'd suggest you check and see if Crucial will swap out the module, hopefully another one will work. If not then you need to speak to the laptop manufacturer.

What is the make and model of the laptop. I would assume it will accept another 8GB, did you use the Crucial website to ensure the memory was compatible.

It could be faulty if it's not being recognised by the bios. There are only two slots I assume, one used already and one you are using for the new module. Does the manufacturer offer any info about upgrading the memory.
