This did initially not work for me, but what eventually solved it was to unplug and plug back in the cable after doing the "Keep original" step.
iPhone to PC photo transfer via USB stops after seconds
Hi there,
I have a brand new, clean install Windows 10 64bit PC and an iPhone. When I connect the phone to the PC, after some seconds I see the phone in the explorer and can see all the folders and photo/videos on the phone.
Problem:
When I drag&drop the folders or a selection of files to the PC to copy them, the copying starts and then stops after only a few seconds - usually only one or two files get copied. The file transfer box in Windows simply closes.
I can do this again, so the phone does not "disconnect" from the PC, in theory I could repeat this a few hundred times to copy all my photos... well, I would hate to have to do that.
What I tried so far:
Tried to use the photo app in Windows and use that to "replicate" the photos - same problem, it copies a few at best, then the iPhone is "no longer present" error box appears. In this case, un-plugging of the phone is necessary to try again. Problem is the same with various iPhones, I tried my 11, an XR and an XS - same issue with all of them. All are on the newest software version. Called Apple, they did a remote diagnosis of my phone, switched the cable to a brand new one, directly connected it to the mainboard, zero issues there, so it has to be Windows.
Any ideas what I have to do in Windows to get this issue fixed?
Thanks!!

2020-08-28T06:06:15+00:00 Method 2 - netsh and winsock reset
- Run Command Prompt as administrator. You can do so by pressing Windows key + X and choosing Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu. In addition, you can type cmd in the Search bar and right click the Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
- Type netsh in Command Prompt and press Enter.
- Next type winsock reset into Command Prompt and hit Enter to run it.
- After the process is completed you’ll be notified and then you just need to restart the computer for changes to take effect.
Hi there,
Tested this method. This puts me back to the time before the Apple USB update in WIndows 10 of yesterday morning:
Copy job starts and ends inside ca. 10 seconds, than abruptly stops. The copy job windows simply disappears, but the iPhone is still connected and you can restart the job.
Interesting... :-) but no solution.

2020-08-27T12:43:43+00:00 Dear All,
I tested with my notebook. I have the same message as well. The transfer started and after a minute or so it ceased to work and the same message appears.
I guess this affects almost all users - I am using Windows 10 Professional (German) whereas my friend is using Windows 10 Professional (EN) and we have the same problem.
It would be great if Microsoft could give a solution to this.
Thank you.
Best regards
Ashar

2020-08-27T08:55:12+00:00 Okay, I see. Kindly try these several steps to figure out the trouble that causes this issue:
Method 1 - SFC scan
Please run System File Checker by doing the following steps:- Open Command Prompt as an administrator, very often referred to as an "elevated" Command Prompt.
- Type the command below and then press Enter.
sfc /scannow
Note: sfc /scannow will inspect all of the important Windows files on your computer, including Windows DLL files. If System File Checker finds a problem with any of these protected files, it will replace it.
- Restart your computer.
Check if it resolves the issue, if not, proceed to next method.
Method 2 - netsh and winsock reset
- Run Command Prompt as administrator. You can do so by pressing Windows key + X and choosing Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu. In addition, you can type cmd in the Search bar and right click the Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
- Type netsh in Command Prompt and press Enter.
- Next type winsock reset into Command Prompt and hit Enter to run it.
- After the process is completed you’ll be notified and then you just need to restart the computer for changes to take effect.
If it still doesn't resolve the issue, proceed to the next method.
Method 3 - update or reinstall driver
- Open Start Menu.
- Type Device Manager and Open it.
- Double-Click on the Portable Devices.
- Under this category, right-click on the driver and select "Update Driver".
- Next select "Search Automatically..."
- Restart your computer.
If that doesn't work, kindly try this:
- Open Start Menu.
- Type Device Manager and Open it.
- Double-Click on the Portable Devices.
- Under this category, right-click on the driver and select "Uninstall driver".
- Next right-click on the category and select "Scan for hardware changes".
- Restart your computer.
If the issue is still there, go to last method I have.
Method 4 - Windows Updates
- Open Start Menu.
- Type Windows Updates and open it.
- If the are pending updates, kindly install them.
- Restart your computer.
Please let me know if that helps.
