Sound suddenly stopped working

Hello team,

Need your immediate assistance again. I opened my laptop this morning and noticed that the sound suddenly stopped working. It was okay when I was watching Netflix last night to midnight.

I followed this YouTube video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ad8P58fhXc&t=263s - and I was able to regain the sound when I plug-in and use my headphone.

The problem now is that the sound of the laptop itself is not working whenever I use the laptop to produce the sound.

May you please assist me with this?

Thank you so much in advance.

Bryan

    Hello iambrei,

I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be happy to assist you today. I understand you have a problem with sound suddenly stop working. Did you made any changes recently? What is the make and model of your device?

    TROUBLESHOOT SOUND

    From Sound Icon

Right-click on the Speaker/Headphone icon in the taskbar of your PC. Select Troubleshoot sound problems. The troubleshooting process will begin.

    CHECK DEFAULT SPEAKER

If you have multiple speakers, you need to set the one that you are using as the default one. Sometimes, after updating Windows, this setting changes, resulting in no sound. To fix it, follow these steps:

Step 1: Search for Control Panel using the search option in the taskbar.

Step 2: In Control Panel, click on Sound.

Step 3: Under the Playback tab, make sure your speakers are set as default. A green tick on them indicates that they are the default. If they aren’t, click on it once and select Set Default at the bottom.

Please visit your manufacturer's Support Page. Download and install the latest audio/sound drivers.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further concerns.

    Sincerely

    John DeV

    Hi John ,

I appreciate the quick response. Apologies as I am not a techy person. Where can I find the make and model of my laptop?

I followed the troubleshooting and disabled the enhancements but there is still no sound.

Also, the screenshot below is the default speaker if headphone is unplugged. When I tried to "Test" it, there is no sound.

    Hi John,

Below is the system model of my laptop. However just to update you, I was to regain the sound of my laptop.

I clicked on the Roll Back Driver by going to Device Manager > Sound, video and game controller > right-click on Realtek (R) Audio > Properties > Roll Back Driver.

After that, I followed this YouTube video again -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boWt-fBD4nc&t=6s.

I restarted my laptop then boom! Sounds are back on both laptop and headphone 😅. I am so relieved.

    Hello iambrei.5,

Thank you for updating me that information. I'm sorry it didn't resolve the issue. When was the last time the built-in speaker was working properly? Can I know is your laptop brand?

Kindly try this to check your laptop model

Press Start then search System Information

    Look for System Model

    Sincerely
