Hello, my store app crashed after updating apps and I couldn't fix it for a day, whenever i tried to re sign it using powershell it said my firewall was off, I checked to see that no matter what I did, I couldn't turn it on so I decided to reset my pc, but after a couple of hours it disabled the anti virus and firewall by itself and I can't turn it on no matter what, I dont use any antivirus software other than win. defender, i tried regedit and services.msc to enable it but to no avail

Yes, It was missing and I followed the instructions carefully, replaced the platform version number to the one found in AppData, However "FailureComand" is nowhere to be seen, is it because im still in safe mode?

Edit: It seems that it's also missing from the reg file i downloaded, I'll try to restart my pc and see if it works without it

Edit, again, windows defender works but firewall doesn't

Final edit (probably): I have downloaded the windows firewall .reg and merged it in safe mode, that fixed the issue, Thank you.

    Hi lukabaazov,

Please check one thing to ensure that another antivirus program has not been activated.

The "Reset" may have caused an antivirus program, that came with your PC, to activate.

Go into Settings>>Windows Security>Virus & Threat Protection, and see what it says

near the top of the screen. Windows Defender will identify any other program it detects.

Farfetched I know, but easy to dispel!

If no other program is described, click on "Open Windows Security" in Windows Security.

The "Security at a Glance" screen is displayed. It should show 7 options that are available.

5 of which should be checked green. For any that are checked otherwise, try to satisfy the

    message that it presents.

You should download a free copy of MalwareBytes, and run a full scan on your PC.

Set it to "Scan for Rootkits".    Just to prove that malware didn't start all of this, or

come on board while you were struggling with Defender.

Please reply, with any pertinent info that you find.

    Thanks,  Glen

    Hi lukabaazov,

That is a very important bit of information, but a little unexpected. Your screenshot

showed one of the symptoms, that contradicts this. (Security At A Glance is not blank)

Please verify that it is for sure missing, by trying to locate it in the Registry.

Enter the Registry by clicking "Start" and type "regedit". Select "Run as Administrator".

    Navigate through the branch: Hkey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services.

When you expand Services, scroll down to WIMMount. WINDEFEND should be right below

that. Exit the Registry, by retracing the steps used to navigate in. At HKLM click File and Exit.

If it was not there, you must replace it, or perform a Repair Upgrade.

See this link for instructions for doing either of these two procedures.

If you find that it is present, look in Task Manager again. Under the Services tab. Click

the heading of the "Name" column. This puts the names in alphabetical order.

Scroll down to WinDefend. Ensure that it is enabled and running.

If it is in fact missing, and you need to use the information in the link above, please reply

    if you have any questions.

    Hi lukabaazov,

Don't be concerned with the Advanced Threat Protection Service. That is a Service for

a feature that you most likely do not have.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/microsoft-defender-atp/microsoft-defender-advanced-threat-protection

However, due to the message that your "threat service has stopped", there are three services

that you should ensure are present, and running.

    1. Security Center                                       (wscsvc)  Running and Automatic (delayed start)
    2. Windows Security Service                      (SecurityHealthService) Running and Manual start.
    3. Windows Defender Antivirus Service    (WinDefend)  Running and Automatic start

Due to a problem in W10 v2004, WinDefend cannot be seen in the Services App.

You will need to find it in the Task Manager under the "Services" tab.

For now, determine if these are are running. If any aren't, try to start them.

Please reply with your results. We may have to take further action if any won't start.

It says "Threat service has stopped. Restart it now" But whenever I try to restart it, it says "Unexpected error. Sorry, we ran into a problem. Please try again" Even after doing a full scan of MalwareBytes, restarting my pc and uninstalling malwarebytes the error is still there, I even tried to set windows defender advanced threat protection service to Automatic but it tells me I don't have access to it, even with an administrator account.
