Should I always install the Dell updates on my Windows 10 Dell desktop as I heard that this is not always safe to do

Hi Wonderful Community,

When I bought my new Dell desktop at Best Buy last August, the salesperson told me that I should just automatically download all Microsoft updates and that I didn't need to download the Dell updates. He said that the Microsoft updates were all that was needed but Dell keeps reminding me of all the updates they want me to do, and I'm afraid, especially because one time my machine wouldn't work after downloading my first Dell update. I want to keep my PC in up-to-date, good working order, but I'm sort of gun-shy of making changes as so often, when I'm trying to keep my PC all up to date, I run into real problems. Sooooooooo, should I accept all updates from Dell?

Thank you very much, this is an extremely valuable group.

Congratulations on your purchase of a New PC.

I understand that you would like to know if you can install the updates from Dell.

A driver is a small but essential piece of software that is written for a specific operating system like Microsoft Windows 10. The operating system uses the driver to communicate with a hardware device such as a printer, video card, sound card, network adapters, etc. Microsoft Windows operating systems includes drivers for most devices, however, device-specific drivers may need to be downloaded and installed from the manufacturer's website. Without drivers, the devices that you connect to your PC would not work properly. Dell develops drivers so that the operating system on your Dell PC can work with your Dell devices and applications. This ensures that your device optimized and up-to-date.

Dell releases updated drivers frequently to ensure that your PC the latest security patches, fixes, and functionality available. When you update your drivers, you are taking a preventative measure to protect your PC and make sure your hardware and devices work properly.
