set-place command populating room mailboxes (floor and capacity) with value 0 when it should be empty

Hi,

I am using set-place powershell command in exchange online to populate floor and capacity, for this i am using a csv file with rows of data for these two columns, namely floor and capacity, in few cases either floor or capacity column in the sheet is empty( no value), after all the execution of rows, when i did get-place i found out that few room mailboxes were populated with value o for floor and capacity when there was no such value in CSV file, ultimately i found out that wherever the column was empty or with no value it populated those properties and set the value to 0 for these boxes.

How do i ensure that wherever the cell is empty, it should not set the boxes with 0, no value should be set, how do i do this?

Thanks,
Harshit Malhotra

If the Set-Place cmdlet is operating on an AD object directly and not on the mailbox (and then depending on Exchange to modify the AD object), you might try using the Set-ADObject cmdlet and the -Clear parameter to remove the value.

I think the -Clear parameter takes the LDAP name of the property, which may very well be different to the name of the value in the Set-Place cmdlet.

I have no Exchange server on which to try this, so the above is just my best guess at a solution!

    Hi @MasterBlaster

I tested in my lab but was not able to set the values of the parameters (floor and capacity) back to the default None value.

If using $null as the value to the parameters, it would not return any errors but the actual value remains unchanged.
I am afraid it may be the by-designed behavior that you must input an integer as a valid value.

I suppose if you are using a csv file to butch modify the information of room mailboxes, you may have to specific invaild values (like a string) instead of leaving it blank for these two parameters.
It would fail to change the values of the two parameters and return error messages.

    Hello Harshit,

Set-Place, This cmdlet is available only in the cloud-based service.

Use the Set-Place cmdlet to update room mailboxes with additional metadata, which provides a better search and room suggestion experience.

In hybrid environments, this cmdlet doesn't work on the following properties on synchronized room mailboxes: City, CountryOrRegion, GeoCoordinates, Phone, PostalCode, State, and Street. To modify these properties on synchronized room mailboxes, use the Set-User or Set-Mailbox cmdlets in on-premises Exchange.

Follow the below link for more information on Set-Place cmdlet

    Hello, dear Microsoft,

Is there any update on that topic? How can we reset the floor value to its default setting (empty)? Any answer that helps solve this will be appreciated.

    Best regards
