HP 440 G2 - fingerprint reader stopped reading/detecting fingerprint after window 10 pro version 2004 driver update

Hi,

I got my windows updates for Win 10 pro Version 2004 and today allowed the install of drivers pending to be installed.

After allowing the restart required to complete the install, the fingerprint reader is not working any more. The sensor detects touch/swipe at the sensor but says "Something went wrong...." with a long message dialogue.

Also, trying to reconfigure the fingerprint from window Hello section in settings, it showed the same failure message mentioned in the paragraph above.

Request your perusal and rectification.

Regards,

Rohit Kumar

    Hello RohitKumarParasar,

I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be happy to assist you today. I understand you have a problem with fingerprint reader not working. When was the last time it was working properly?

**Please try to visit first your manufacturer's Support Page. Download and install the latest fingerprint driver for your device.

    >Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices

    Synaptics WBF Fingerprint Driver

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservic...

**Please try to run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter

Press Start then search command prompt

Right click then run as administrator

    type: msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic

    Run the troubleshooter

    Restart your PC

**Please try to Update, Rollback or Uninstall your Device

    Open Device Manager

Expand Biometric Devices > Right click your fingerprint device

Click Update driver. select Search automatically for updated driver software

or Right click then Properties > Driver Tab > Roll back driver if not disabled

If it doesn't work, Click Uninstall device. Delete the driver software for this device check box, and then select Uninstall. Restart your PC.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further concerns.

    Sincerely

    John DeV

    Hi John (John DeV),

The solution worked perfectly. Thank you for perusal and advice.

I believe the driver on the official HP site was from 2018, which is technically rolling back from the latest Windows 10 update driver.

Request you to kindly also share the discrepancy in the driver update to the MS updates team so that we can move to "Limit tends to..." perfection for Windows 10.I will mark the first solution as answer to the current issue.

Request you to kindly also provide a solution, if plausible, for the following issue raised in a different link:

    Hi John,

The fingerprint reader worked fine even just before the windows update. I used is regularly for log in. Now using only pin/Password only since yesterday.

Will surely try the option you have provided.

    Will update if it resolves.

    Thanks,

    Rohit
