How to save backup on a network shared drive

Hi,

I want to save my backup on a network shared drive. I'm able to do a "map network drive" and "add a network location" to this location.

However when I want to select this location for my backup I get an error message. Please see attachments for the error message.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,

Tomi

    Hi Tomi,

I'm Independent Advisor not Microsoft employee or support person. But I'm in contact with Windows developers since 1995 - as a one of the best Windows beta-testers till 2009 when program was closed, as an MVP in 2005-2017 including Windows System & Performance nomination. So I have deep enough Windows knowledge and you may trust me. It's a pleasure for me to help others and I'll do all my best to help you.

Please check all volumes of your Surface with chkdsk /r /scan command.

    Hi Erik,

Thank you very much for your response.

The format of the Disk is Exfat.

Normally there shouldn't be a problem with regards to drivers or cords, because I use the disk as a backup for my macbook on a daily basis.

Maybe it's due to the setup. The disk is connected via USB to my macbook. I'm trying to do a backup of my surface on this backup disk.

    I also tried the following:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>chkdsk Z: /f /r /x

Cannot open volume for direct access.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>

    Thanks and Regards,

    Tomi

    Hi,TomiCorigliano

My name is Erik. I'm an Independent Advisor and I'll be glad to help you today.

What we need to do is to fix the error and isolate the issue.

I/O Device Error can be caused for the following reasons

    *Outdated drivers

*The hard drive is incompatible with the OS platform

*Faulty CD/DVD writer and USB port

*Loose USB or e SATA cord

    *Physically damaged hard drive

Solution 1: Check all cables connections try to remove and reconnect the cable if you can able to unplug and plug in the cables or sata cable.

After that restart the PC or laptop

    Try to reaccess the drive/device.

Solution 2: Update or Re-Install the Drivers

At times, an outdated driver may also cause I/O device error. This error can be fixed by updating or re-installing a new driver. You need to check either the drivers are updated and compatible with the disk transfer.

    Solution 3: Check and Repair

    1. The device in Command Prompt

Press (Windows + X) both Keys together and select Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu list

    1. Click Yes to allow OS to launch the Command Prompt as Administrator.
    2. In Command Prompt window, type chkdsk G: /f /r /x Here G is the drive letter; you can replace it with your drive letter.

This option will check and repair disk errors on the external & internal hard drive/USB drive/SD card to fix I/O device error.

After the repair restart the PC or laptop and try to check it again

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further concerns.

    Regards,

    Erik
