Saving a PDF file opened in Edge

Until recently, a file opened in Edge could be saved by "right clicking", selecting "Save" and then saving to the target directory on Surface.

Now the "Save" functionality is greyed out i.e. saving is not possible so you have to print to PDF which takes longer.

Any idea on how to resolve this?  Thanks.

So PDFs opened from Outlook message attachments are actually cached (and saved) locally, which would explain why you do not have the Save option.

To determine Edge browser type and version, go to the 3 dots menu in top-right > Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge. For the most part, if you have automatic updates enabled, then you have the new Edge browser.

    Hi William

    Thanks for the reply.

This is a file that has been received in Outlook (as a PDF attachment to an email).  In opening the attachment, this appears in Edge.  I have previously be able to "right click" on the opened file and "save" to a target directory.

Anyway, I now see that the "Save As" option in the top-right corner will save the file.  Thanks for advising.

How do I determine whether I have legacy Edge vs new Edge?  Thanks.

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is William. I'm a Windows technical expert. I'll be happy to help you out today.

Is this a locally saved PDF? if so, the Save option would be unavailable for that reason. However, you can still use the Save As option from the top-right corner of the PDF. If it is a PDF opened from the web, then you should have the Save option in both the right-click contextual menu as well as the top-right corner.

And I assume we are talking about the new Edge (Chromium) browser, not legacy Edge.
