My bcd file was missing the device info

Run bcdedit and see if the device info is missing

I ran  bcdedit /set {bootmgr} device partition=C:   command prompt in admin mode and it fixed the problem

Finally !!!! I tried for weeks to upgrade to v 2004, but never was able too! From error code 0xc0000005 to .....0xc1900101, nothing worked!

I never had any problems from 1803 to 1909, but 2004 (ever since it came up as a feature update) never worked!

Until now....I ran  bcdedit /set {bootmgr} device partition=C:   command prompt in admin mode and it fixed the problem !!!

    Thank you fdsonn !!!

    Hi wo747.

I have the same issue and I can see that you resolved yours by checking bcedit to see if { bootmgr} device partition was set to C:

I have checked mine in command promt also and my device partition is already set to C:

Did you have to do anything else other than add that command?

    Thanks

    Rich

    Hi Rich,

Run " bcdedit /set {bootmgr} device partition=C: "   command prompt in admin mode again, as mine was also already set for C:

I also Disabled the Build-in Administrator (make sure your user name has Administrator privilege)

Enable Built-in Administrator from Command Prompt (Windows 10 Home)

The command line can also be used to enable and disable the administrator account.

Open Start, type: CMD, right-click Command Prompt then click Run as administrator.

Type the following command and press Enter:

    net user administrator /active:yes

To disable it, type the following command and press Enter:

Disabling it is just as easy, type net user administrator /active:no

I hope this works for you!

    Hi fdsonn,

Thanks for reaching out! I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

You can try these methods to troubleshoot this issue.

Method 1: Force Windows 10 to Download the Update from Scratch.

-Step 1: Delete the Windows Update folder.

    • Simultaneously press the Win image + R keys to open the run command box.
    • Type the following command ("services.msc") and press OK.
    • From the list of services, at the right pane locate the Windows Update service.
    • Right click on "Windows Update" service and choose Stop. *
    • Close "Services" window.

    * Note: If you cannot stop the Windows Update service, then:

    a. Double click on it to open its Properties.

    b. Set the Startup type to Disabled and click OK.

    c. Restart your computer.

    d. After restart, continue below.

    • Open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows folder.
    • Locate and then Delete the SoftwareDistribution folder. *

    * Notes:

a . If you cannot delete the folder with error "Folder in use – try again", then

restart Windows in "Safe Mode" and repeat the procedure.

    b. If you have disabled the Windows Update service (Startup type =

Disabled), then go to services and set the Startup type to Automatic.

    • Restart your computer.

-Step 2: Download again and try to install the Update

    • After the restart, go to Start image > Settings > Update & Security.
    • Click Check for updates.
    • Finally let Windows to download and install the update again.

Method 2: Install the Windows 10 update using the Upgrade Assistant.

    • Follow the instructions at Step-1 from Method-1 above and delete the

    "SoftwareDistribution" folder.

    • Navigate to Windows 10 download site and click the Update now button.

    • When asked, click to Run the "Windows10Upgrade(version).exe" file to start the

installation immediately, or click the Save button to run the installer later.

    • Finally click the Update Now button and follow the on screen prompts to

update your system to the latest release of Windows 10.

    Hope it helps.
