I think I found the solution how to get high quality screenshots:
- take screenshot using PrtScn or Snip & Sktech
- copy to Windows Paint
- save file as BMP
My resulting screenshot has a size of 11MB instead of 400kB when saved as jpg or pgn

Today I had to record several screenshots of some test results. The screens included a lot of text. Dell XPS 15 9500 with the FHD+ screen.
I recorded the screenshots using Win + PrnScn. The png screenshots (of the whole screen) were around 400k in size so the quality was low and some of the small text hardly readable.
Is there any way to do uncompressed high quality screenshots in Windows 10?

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is William. I'm a Microsoft Windows Certified Professional and Systems Administrator. I'll be happy to help you out today.
The default format cannot be changed as far as I know. You would have to use a 3rd party screenshot program. A couple free ones are GreenShot and WinSnap.
Thanks @Frederick Long
I doubt that I am getting the native screen resolution. My screen is 1920 x1200 which is 2.3MPixel. At 8bit colour depth that would correspond to around 2.3MB of information for an uncompressed capture. My screenshot PNGs are around 400kB, so this would be around 2% of the screen's actual information content.
The quality of the BMP file when zoomed is significantly better than the JPG or the PNG
You might find that the resolution of your screen shots is much the same as your display resolution. You cannot go beyond these numbers.
