How can I remove the banner overlay?

I know of previous guides and previous threads on the Windows support forums like this one https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-disable-the-new-volume-overlay/4625e08e-6b66-434f-848f-6921e757f1e8 which consistently say that it is a setting in chrome. I have already disabled the chrome feature a few months ago, but the overlay pops up when I have a video playing with Windows' built-in video application (Movies & TV).

I've been unable to find any guides on how to disable it since they all seem to answer the question of disabling the chrome banner. I've also seen other people suggest downloading http://wordpress.venturi.de/?p=1, but this program hides the On-Screen Display (OSD) as a whole instead of just the second part of the banner which displays the source of the audio. I've attached a screenshot of the full OSD while a video is open in the included Movies & TV application. The same banner appears while the video is open and not playing, with the only difference being a play button instead of a pause button in the middle.

    hi UnsurePenguin

the new version of Edge is built on the chromium platform and has a similar "feature".

Depending on installed extensions, edge may continue to run in the background so may not actually be open in a window for this to appear when playing media.

    Open edge

enter the following into the address bar and press enter

    edge://flags/#hardware-media-key-handling

Set Hardware Media Key Handling to 'Disabled'

    restart Edge.

to stop edge running in the background

in edge, click the ellipsis (...) and select settings

select system in the left panel

in the right pane, turn off "continue running background apps when Microsoft edge is closed"

Adding this for future visitors: you'll need to disable this feature for ALL browsers. If you have Edge, Chrome, and Firefox installed, for example, you should disable it for all three browsers.

Thank you for the prompt response. Unfortunately, I am not using Microsoft Edge. I took the steps you mentioned to disable it on Edge, but the problem still occurs.

The media control banner is displayed for ALL applications, including but not limited to the Windows Movies & TV application. Another application, for example, that displays the banner is Groove Music, despite it being a built-in Windows feature. Do you know how I might be able to disable the banner for these applications or (preferably) for Windows as a whole?

It shows up because ALL these applications are based some of the source code from chrome. They all reused the same source code over and over and over again.

Therefore, you cannot change the behavior, period.

it is created by a chromium based browser and will appear when playing any media.

    which browser(s) are installed?
