The display on my PC is stuck zoomed in

Hi so, when i start up my computer the display is stuck zoomed in. I’ve been having this problem for awhile now, sometimes if I shutdown and restarted the pc enough times it would eventually open with the normal display size.

However, now even if I restart it many times the display is remaining zoomed in. Consider, I have tried zooming in and out once on the desktop but this does not fix anything as this is not the problem. The display is zoomed in from the very first screen that is displayed, the HP sceen for context. I have also tried the following, going through display adapters and uninstalling device. But this did not work for me. Also I have tried leaving the pc turned off for periods of time before starting it up again, as well as unplugging it and switching it off at the socket before starting up but once again this did not work.

I should also mention that this started happening after the pc was left on for awhile or when the power cut out unexpecantly a few times, not sure if this is a contributing factor. Also the pc is new as of december 2019.

the computer itself is a hp pavilion, intel core i5 8th gen if this is any help.

please any help or advice is much appreciated, I feel as though I’ve tried everything and I’m not sure what to do.

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is William. I'm a Microsoft Windows Certified Professional and Systems Administrator. I'll be happy to help you out today.

Sounds like your scaling settings are set too large. Right-click on an empty portion of the Desktop > select Display settings > under Scale and layout, confirm you are at 100%.

Another cause could be the Ctrl key + mouse scroll wheel being activated at the same time, which has the side effect of making icons or text in applications appear larger or smaller. To adjust, hold down the Ctrl key while scrolling backward.

    Hi there!

I have already tried this, it doesn’t fix my issue. Plus, the problem of the zoomed in display is there as soon as my pc starts up before i even reach the log in screen.

If you are seeing during post to the initial Windows logo before you get to the logon screen, then your monitor may have physical controls that require adjusting, e.g. aspect ratio or similar display settings.

Manipulate the physical controls on the monitor access the menu settings.

The so-called Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) may no longer be present or incorrect, causing the display issue.

What type of monitor? What type of connection is being used? Can you switch to a different cable type, e.g. HDMI, HDMI, DisplayPort?
