Is uTorrent really safe?

I just downloaded uTorrent from their official website. After installation, the .exe file downloaded and installed 2 programs automatically and started them up.

They were -

  1. Opera browser
  2. Avast free antivirus.

After installation of the torrent browser it automatically opened up the settings and tried to change my default browser!

I uninstalled them all along with uTorrent and did an antivirus scan where nothing was found.

Now, my question is, How and why did uTorrent downloaded and installed this programs without my permission and tried to change my settings?

Is it compromising our security and privacy?

    Yes, other users are also facing the same.

    I would recommend to do this:

    Install uTorrent.

    During installation, check all the content of the wizard thoroughly before accepting any conditions by clicking on a button or before checking any checkbox to accept. Make sure to not accept when it is asking for your approval for Avast or Opera.

    Once installation is finished, check again, if you've got Avast and/or Opera, if yes, then please go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Search for Avast and Opera (one by one) > Right click on that > Uninstall.

    Is a McLaren safe? Sure it is, if you have the training and the experience, so you know what you're getting into and how to handle it.

    Torrents are the same way.

    Those two installers could be clubbed with the original uTorrent Installer.

    May I know from which website you have downloaded this installer?
