Recycle Reset

my brother got a ThinkPad Lenovo computer from our grandfather some months ago, and while it gets a little slow at times, it's tolerable. I got The Sims 4 on it, and he had some games downloaded on it, too. I installed 3 mods for The Sims, but didn't notice any glitching or lagging, or anything else different about the computer. It's Windows 7, but Windows 10. I don't understand it, but my brother does. The Sims 4 need Windows 10 to run, so obviously the computer has Windows 10 somewhere. On Wednesday after school I went to go play my game and relax before my brother got home, and I opened the computer and went to The Sims. I leave the game open but on the main menu, because I don't like waiting for it to load every time. The screen was black and the Sims mouse was stuck, it was fine and then it froze. Now, it's just a mess. I don't understand computers, but we've tried resetting the computer and saving the files, and it won't work. If I reset it for recycling, will it still work afterwards?

    Hi Mariposa

Okay, if the Reset is not completing, then your Recovery Image is corrupt, your best option is to go to a working PC, download and create a bootable Windows 10 USB and clean install Windows from that . . .

You can reinstall Windows 10 at any time and it will not cost you anything !

    Click this link:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created (change Boot Order in your BIOS) to begin installing Windows 10

Since you previously had Windows 10 installed and activated on that PC during the installation process skip the steps which ask for a product key and select the option 'I am Reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC', and activation will not be an issue, your PC will have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers

Make sure you install the same Edition of Windows 10 (Home, Pro . . . etc.) you previously had installed to avoid Activation issues

    Hi Mariposa

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

    1

Before you try resetting, try this:

Start your PC, just as Windows attempts to load (spinning dots), press and hold Power Button for 5 - 10 seconds to perform a Hard Shut Down

    Do this twice

On the third start Windows will boot into the Recovery Environment and from there you can access System Repair, Safe Mode, Command Prompt . . . etc.

Please try each option one at a time, then see of Windows will boot . . .

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Startup Repair

See if Windows startup can repair itself

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - System Restore

Check to see if you have a restore point you can go back to

If you do not have a Restore Point, go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Startup Settings and click Restart

Upon restart, press 4 to enter Safe Mode

Once in Safe Mode, backup your data if you do not already have a backup

Open Device Manager and check to make sure all your Drivers are up to date

Reboot to see if Windows will start Normally

Finally, if you choose the Reset for Recycling, then you will end up with a PC with just Windows 10, there will be no user accounts, user files or applications on that PC, you will then need to create a new user profile and re-install all applications and games

It is basically the same as a Reset while choosing to keep nothing, but it takes a very long time, because every bit and byte on the drive will be overwritten

It would be best to run a reset again and choose to keep nothing, that is a lot quicker . . .

The only options it gives me is to reset and save files or reset for recycling. I don't think there's an option for me to just reset and keep nothing.
