Brother -Printer driver update keep appearing even driver up-to-date

Hi,

In the past view days an update for my "Brother" printer started to appear in "Optional Updates". The date of the update is from 2009 (10.0.17119.1), and the latest drivers on Brother website are dated to 2015 (10.0.19041.1), and they are the once I installed.

When I press "Download and install", it shows "Checking for updates" and return back to main update page, without anything being install and the "update" notice keep appear in the optional updates section.

When trying to check for updates via "Device manager" - I got the message that the "latest version installed".

It seems to me like a bug.

Please advice.

Niktia

    Hi,

I don't have a Brother printer so why I'm getting this?

I do not need an update for a driver I don't have and for a printer I don't have.

    my printers are:

long time ago, I had a Brother printer.

    regedit

erased everything I do not have anymore

restated W10 and checked again the updates and Brother is gone.

This is formerly VAatf (now NVatf).  I was wrong about WUAUSERV.  Thought it solved my issue, but it has reappeared.   I think I have a workaround.

You can "hide" an update and Microsoft will no longer pester you about it.

Download wushowhide.diagcab from the support.microsof..com web site and execute it.

Click on Next. After it does a scan, click on Hide updates and check the driver you want Microsoft update to ignore.

    I understand.

In this case how can i remove the installation from the update view?

If it isn't recommended, it shouldn't be on the installations option.

    Thank you,

    Nikita

Anything that looks like version 10.0.17119.1 or 10.0.19041.1 means it is a generic Microsoft driver, written by Microsoft. Microsoft backdates their generic driver so that it doesn't interfere with the real brother driver.

So it is a back up generic driver, in case you didn't install the actual brother printer driver.

I have been having this issue for about a month too.

I've tried the steps below and then some.

This is not an optional update.

When I download it, it "installs" (taking only mili-seconds), no reboot required.

It's almost as if Windows is saying, never mind, you don't need this.

After downloading and "installing", Windows says everything is up to date.

A few days later, I'll get another notice.

This has not gone away and is extremely annoying
