One day my computer became suddenly slow and the GPU usage it at 100% constantly

About a week ago my computer suddenly started acting incredibly slow. At first, I thought it was the CPU but after looking in the performance tab in task manager I saw it was my integrated graphics. Before I go further these are the specs of my ASUS TUF FX505 GT

8gb of ddr4 ram

9th generation i5 Intel core

Intel UHD graphics 630 (integrated graphics) (this is the one that seems to be causing the issues)

Nvidia GTX 1650

The problem is that the screen freezes whenever I try anything even something as simple as switching tabs or scrolling down a page. I have tried countless things to fix this and I will list as many as I can remember:

Disabling the card with device manager (which works but barely and I end up getting super low fps in games and I'm also getting some problems with the 1650 too)

Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers (did absolutely nothing for either card)

Rolling back the drivers and windows (once again did nothing)

Factory resetting my pc (just a waste of time it didn't even seem to reinstall the drivers)

Setting my power setting to max performance

Checking the BIOS

I don't have a clue what is going on but I have three theories:

  1. Somehow the actual hardware is broken and that is bad as my pc is a laptop
  2. There is another driver that somehow affects it
  3. I spent $850 on a potato

In a few days, I'm going to go to Best Buy as maybe they can figure it out. But PLEASE HELP ME I WANT TO PLAY CSGO AGAIN WITHOUT 20 FPS!!!

    Hi David_7000 -

I'm Jerico T., one of the Independent Advisor and a fellow Windows 10 user like you. I understand that you're having some issues right now and I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. Let us sort things out.

Is this the first time you encounter the issue? Having a 90% to 100% GPU usage is usually common while playing games, it means that there's no limit on your FPS. A high GPU usage indicates that you are maximizing your graphics card to it's maximum level/abilities. Maximizing your graphics card is a good thing because it is specially designed to give you maximum frame rate and for better gaming views and experience.

But to check if there's something that is causing your computer to run slow, try the following method below and check if it resolves the issue.

    Perform Clean Boot

    • This process will eliminate 3rd party application running in the background of your computer along with services that are not needed to run windows. If there's any conflicting 3rd party application that causes the issue on your computer, this process will stop it.
    1. Open the run box by pressing the Windows Key + R and type msconfig
    2. System Configuration Utility box will open and by default you are on general tab.
    3. On the General tab, click the selective startup and make sure that load system service and load startup items both have checked mark.
    4. Click on services tab
    5. Put a check mark on Hide All Microsoft Services > This is a very important part as if you miss to click on this, computer might not boot properly or permanently and will end up on clean installation.
    6. Once Hide all Microsoft Services have checked mark on it, click on Disable All
    7. Click on the Startup Tab and click open task manager. This will open another window which contains all your startup applications on the administrator account.
    8. Disable all application that you're not using. You can simply just click on them and select disable.
    9. Click OK , Apply and close the configuration utility.
    10. Restart your computer and check if it resolve the issue.

Feel free to reach us back if you need further assistance.

Hope this help. Have a good day.

    Thank you.

    Jerico T.

    Hi David_7000 -

Thank you for your response. You can overclock your GPU however there are some risk in doing that. The main risk of overclocking are frying the parts, also if you have unstable overclock, your computer might freeze and get your data corrupted or lose your data.

    Regards,

    Jerico T.

it seems to have sort of worked as before this happened i had around 150 fps and after the problem I had 20 to 30 now after this i have 60 fps to 80 so not bad. Maybe I can overclock the gpu and get it back up more I am only going to need to do it for a few months anyways as I am going to get a desktop in around 8 months.
