Two finger scrolling not working.

Suddenly two finger scrolling function has stopped working on my HP Laptop. The rest of the touchpad is working fine but the scrolling is not happening. I looked over the internet and there were multiple solutions offered. However, I was not able to use them. The details are below.

  1. Enable two-finger scroll from settings. I tried this but all I get under touchpad section in settings in related to Taps.

  1. Updating drivers. I opened device manager and under mice and pointing device I chose update driver. Then, I went to update manually and I did not see the option of HID-compliant mouse which was selected in multiple videos telling how to fix this problem. Here is that screenshot.

  1. Go to control panel. Select hardware and sound and go to Mouse. Under that select device settings and enable two finger scrolling. I opened all this but never saw the device settings option.

Please help regarding this. All responses are welcome and appreciated.

Hello, I’m Virginia an independent advisor with 20 years of expertise in fixing my own & friends’ PC problems.

    Which Windows 10 build are you running - 1903, 1909 or 2004?

This has been a problem with Synaptics & Elan touchpads. Was/is there a tab under device manager>Mouse> if there was a tab for those settings but it’s now missing then a driver update removed it.

Rolling back the driver doesn’t work for some reason so in order to add the settings back you have to install the Microsoft precision touchpad driver:

Try installing the Microsoft precision touchpad driver:

https://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/66163/how-to-in... This will add extra touchpad options under Settings>Devices>Touchpad.

Thoroughly research any product which is mentioned here before you decide to download and install it.

Under the tab there’s usually several settings for disabling the touchpad & scrolling functions. Is that tab from Device manager>Mouse? There should be other tabs listed too if so.

It may be the touchpad has failed or requires drivers.

I have followed the tutorial & downloaded the drivers with much success. I lost the Synaptics tab under Mouse properties & only had very basic settings under Settings>Devices>Touchpad, after installing those drivers I had full functionality returned to the touchpad.

    Hello,

Thanks for the reply. I checked the build version and I have windows 10 version 2004. Also in device manager the option of Mice and other pointing devices is still available.  Also, is the site you mentioned safe or is it better to download from Microsoft. Also, when I open the synaptics touchpad app on my laptop. It shows this message.

And after I click no, it opens up the synaptics device settings. Is there something that can be done here?

    Thanks,

    Prabhsimrat
