Hello,

My old laptop has this wireless LAN adapter which I want to replace with a better/latest receiver supporting latest protocol.

Kindly suggest me great products. Also, should I go with a combo Wireless LAN/Bluetooth receiver instead?

    Hi Buddy_2020,

it depends on the model of your router and the wi-fi standard used.

If your router uses the 802.11n wi-fi standard it is preferable to buy an 802.11n wi-fi adapter, if your router uses the 802.11ac wi-fi standard it is preferable to buy an 802.11ac wi-fi adapter. The same is true if your router uses the latest 802.11ax wi-fi standard. In any case, all types of wi-fi adapters are backwards compatible whatever the standard used by the router. For perfect compatibility, however, it is preferable to purchase a wi-fi adapter that uses the same wi-fi standard as the router.

    Hi Buddy_2020-

I'm Kevin B. Independent advisor and a Windows user like you. Thank you for reaching us out about the concern, let me help you sort things out.

You can download or update driver on using device manager:

To do that press windows key and type: device manager

Hit enter and once your on the device manager look for network adapter.

Expand that and right click on the wireless driver that you have.

Click on update and click search automatically for updated driver software.

wait for the update to be installed.

    Or

To get a better driver, you can check it on the manufacturers website to get the compatible drivers for your device.

You need to check your system manufacturer and system model on your device to get the exact product that make your driver compatible.

To do that press windows key + R

    Type: msinfo32

Hit enter and look for system manufacturer and system model.

Search that on your browser to get the specific driver for your network adapter.

You need to go to the manufacturers website to get the most updated and compatible driver on your device.

Hope this will help and have a blessed day!

    Thanks.

    Kevin B.

Hello, I understand but could you at least advise which protocol in wireless LAN technology is trending nowadays. As I understand 802.11g is pretty old and slow. Thanks

    Hi Buddy_2020,

the purpose of this community is not to suggest great products, so you can search the internet yourself.

If you want to replace your wi-fi adapter, I suggest you take your laptop to a service center or buy an external wi-fi usb dongle.
