How to disable the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power network adapter setting in windows 10

Hello,

I want to disable the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save powernetwork adapter setting.

The usual approach is to go to Device Manager > Network Adapters > adapter_name_here > properties > Power Management Tab,

but the Power Management Tab is not present for me.

  • I could have enabled CsEnabled in the registry, but update 2004 has deleted it, so no go.
  • I could have checked in Advanced tab in the adapter for power managements, but there is none.
  • Reinstalled the adapter, done. nothing changed.

So my last ditch effort was to tamper with the registry, and found this:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-client/networking/power-management-on-network-adapter

It does not work for windows 10, because PnPCapabilities entry does not exist, so i still can't.

QUESTION :

How do I disable the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save powernetwork adapter setting or atleast show the power management tab in the Device Manager so i can turn it off from there??

    Hi Siegfred_77,

go to Device Manager> network adapters, select your network adapter in use, click on the Advanced tab and disable any option concerning power saving, look for the MIMO Power Save Mode option and try to set it to No SMPS.

Note that for some network adapters there is no Power Management option in Device Manager. It is necessary to act according to the instructions I have already given you.

    Hi Siegfred_77,

Try changing the power plan for the wireless network adapter:

Type powercfg.cpl in the search box then proceed by following the next steps.

1-In Power Options click on Change plan settings.

2-On the next page click on Change advanced power settings.

3-On the next page expand Wireless Adapter Settings, then expand Power Saving Mode.

4-In Battery powered and Mains powered, select Maximum performance.

Yes, i have tried that, the only reason i have upgraded to the newest driver is in the hope that i get power management.

    It's a laptop, an Asus GU502LW.

I wouldn't know, because the crappy BitLocker locked me out while i was intalling my dual boot linux without giving me a recovery key so i had to wipe it out.

That the fact that i discovered this issue is that windows seems to shut off the wifi card during shutdown, causing issues for the linux 5.4 wifi driver on boot which.

I installed from the scratch and installed vendor specific drivers and some hardware specific drivers.

I checked my computer which has an AX200 wireless adapter and it has the 21.120.2.1 driver and has the Power Management Tab.

What computer (or motherboard) do you have (make/model)?

Did you ever have the Power Management Tab present?
