Can't Unlock my laptop as keyboard and touchpad both are not working on my lock screen. What to do now?

I un-installed and installed a mouse driver on my laptop. Everything was working fine, but when I restarted my windows, screen becomes unresponsive and mouse cursor is not visible, touchpad is not working and keyboard keys are also not responding, I tried external mouse and keyboard, but as soon as it comes to lock screen laptop somehow block/stop taking input from touchpad/mouse and keyboard.

There is no physical damage to laptop keyboard and touchpad.

After power shutting down 3 times and entering in the recovery mode. Here both keyboard and mouse works fine but when I continue to normal startup again, they both hangs on lock screen, and laptop becomes unresponsive.

Tried External mouse and keyboard: Failed

I don't want to reset the whole system, as there are very important files in my laptop, which I haven't backed up.

Is there anyway I can fix this using BIOS or Recovery?

Hi Tushar. I see you marked my post unhelpful, even though I said I would keep helping you until the issue is resolved. This gives me a bad rating on the thread, for trying to do my best to help you. Did you still want my help?

I'll give you all possible fixes for touchpad issues. Even if you've completed a step please do it again in this sequence, report back results.

    1. Update the Touchpad driver from the PC maker's Support Downloads web page, using the full model number, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu. Make sure you also have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.
    2. If that doesn't help then enter Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button, go to Mice > Touchpad and then Driver tab. Choose Update Driver, then Automatic to see if it gets a better driver that resolves the problem. If not try Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick to try all previously installed drivers.
    3. If that doesn't work then try uninstalling driver, Restart PC using keyboard to Ctrl Alt Del, on blue screen tab to Power Icon in bottom right, press Enter, arrow down to Restart, press Enter to restart to reinstall the driver.
    4. See the troubleshooting steps here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/402786...
    5. Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad to go over the Settings. Then choose Additional Settings which opens the Mouse properties box. The Touchpad software installs a tab onto it - usually the last one - that should have more settings to check, including a checkbox to Disable Touchpad when USB pointing device is attached. This prevents palm drag from causing the cursor to jump
    6. If this was caused by Windows Update(s) then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Update History, then uninstall them from the link there, and immediately check for these again and hide with the Hide Updates tool explained here:

    https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta...

You can also go into Repair Mode by whichever method works here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanc... to use the new Uninstall Updates button in Advanced Troubleshoot Options: https://pureinfotech.com/uninstall-updates-adva....

You can also use System Restore from within Windows or the above Repair Mode to get back before the problem began, then check for Updates with the Hide Update tool and hide them:

    https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

    1. If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, and is also the most stable method to advance to the latest version. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

HI Tushar. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator, here to help you.

Since it works in the Repair Mode try to System Restore to before the change was made that caused this. All methods here:

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanc...

If System Restore is not available you can try accessing Safe Mode to see if it works, then access Device Manager roll back the same mouse driver, update the driver, or try all previous drivers using Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

You can access Safe Mode with Networking (so you have internet), or Safe Mode, accessed by one of these methods: https://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-boot-saf...

    https://www.intowindows.com/boot-windows-10-in-...

It may be necessary to create bootable media on another PC to access Advanced Startup Options to try repairs, a Reset or do the Clean install. The bootable media has it's own set of system files which may work better if the ones on the PC are damaged.

To create Windows 10 Installation Media on another PC install Media Creation Tool and follow the directions here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m.... Uncheck the box for Recommended Settings to choose the exact version and bit rate for the target PC only.

Insert media, boot it by powering up PC while pressing the BIOS Boot Menu Key: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/hardware-tutor...

If the media won't boot you may need to enter BIOS/UEFI Setup (pressing key given in chart in link above) to turn off Fast Boot or Fast Startup first.

Choose the boot device as a UEFI device if offered, on second screen choose Repair Your Computer, then Advanced Troubleshoot Options, then System Restore, or the Command Prompt to force Safe Mode from the tutorial above. If that fails go back to Troubleshoot Options to try a Reset.

If that fails choose Install Now, then Custom Install, then at the drive selection screen delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space to get it cleanest, click Next to let it create needed partitions and start install - this makes it foolproof. Everything needed to get the best possible Clean Install is here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.... It is a better install than any amount of money can buy and a great learning experience that will make you the master of your PC because you will learn what works best and how to apply it with your own hands.

If you have files that aren't backed up you can use the same bootable media to try to rescue your files using these methods: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    Things got worse.

I have been updating all of drivers one by one as you said.

And I updated a driver using third party software named as Driver booster.

As device manager is saying that the best driver is already installed, but Driver booster was showing that an update of the driver exist. So I downloaded that and restart the PC.

And now I am stuck in the continuous blue screen loop.

And not even able to enter in the safe mode.

Error loops show the given picture and than restarts the pc continuously.

Now I am completely stuck at blue sceen dead end loop.

Is there anyway I could resolve.

    Please help me with this.

Hey Greg Carmack, thanks for replying so fast.

I tried to resolve the issue by entering on safe mode and updating keyboard drivers from there, using an external mouse, as touchpad and keyboard in laptop both were not working (even on safe mode).

After restarting windows on normal mode, now keyboard is working fine but I had to use the external mouse, as trackpad is still not working.

Now the issue is, only left and right clicks on trackpad are working but the touch area is still unresponsive.

Tried updating drivers for mouse/touchpad many times after restarting windows, but nothing worked.

    How to resolve this issue?
